Charleston Lake Report
I have been beating my brains out trying to find some decent smallies on Charleston but with no luck so far. With 2 Largmouth over 3lb I decided to stay with the largies. My day up to 10AM was a bit too boreing with bass in the 12-14 inch range all over my Wacko's but nothing even close to the 2lb range.
then at 10:10 AM the Wacko stopped dropping a bit too soon for the water depth so I set the hook.....what the???? Crap!! musta drove the hook into a log...then the "log" started to move.
4.14lbs on the digital scale. Couldn't find my tape measure.
Finally a decent bass. Great fight too.
So far bigest largemouth have came from about 8ft of water with most hits in the lower part of the water column.
My rod is a BPS Pro finesse 6'9" ML action with an Ambassadeaur 4600C5
The reel is spooled with 40lb PowerPro with a 6-7ft piece of 15lb Cabelas No-Vis flouorcarbon leader. I use a Gamakatsu 4/0 Wide Gap Finesse hook. Although I normally use Yamamoto Senkos I have been experimenting with 5 1/2in. Wackos from Wacky Worm in Pennsylvania. So far I am impressed with their Wackos and the tubes.

Great looking bass, bud!
Gotta love setting the hook on a big greenback in relatively deep water...the log analogy is spot on.
Thanks for the report.
Good Fishing,
Justin

Nice fish Dropshotter!
Don't give up on those smallies. Charleston is unique in that the average smallmouth are bigger than the largemouth.
The other thing is the smallmouth there will come up a long long way for a surface bait and use big surface baits like a Zara Spook. The other extreme is to fish a little smoke grub on the botton really slow. Let it just sit there sometimes.
