question for diver or cold IN cold water fishermans..

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Neoprene suits lets a thin layer of water enter next to your skin where it's warmed by your body..if you fall in you will feel the cold for a few seconds   They are fairly thick and give you some insulation.

Drysuits are one-piece suits that have latex gaskets at the wrists, ankles, and neck and a zipper or roll-up closure to stop water from going in. The only thing with wetsuits, is that they aren't insulated so you will have to wear some good thermal underwear underneath the suit...when you go to the store to try these suits on make sure you take your "long johns" (thermal underwear) with you so that you'll feel the real fit of the suit and get the right size!

The onlly thing I would worry about is the air temperature rather than the water temperature....depending on how long in the season you want to yak...it could be cooler out of the water and you may want to be dressed for it....

I have a floatation suit that not only keeps me warm, but will keep me floating if I fall into the cold water...The one I have is fairly bulky but if you don't mind spending a bit more$$$, you can buy floatation suits that are light weight...
The real nice thing with the float suit is that you can wear it when you go out ice fishing early in the winter and late in the spring and not have to worry about falling through the ice and drowning

Joco,
Here is a link to the Tri-Rudy classifieds. This is a site dedicated to tri-athletes with information and a classified section that has everything athletic orientated from soup to nuts for sale. I know of two people in Brockville that purchased used wetsuits from people selling them on Tri-Rudy. You could also put a "Wet-suit wanted" ad in Tri-Rudy classifieds. You could check E-bay too.

http://www.trirudy.com/region/OE/classified/index.cfm

I also agree with Trouthunter in this matter, a survival suit is your best bet. It is a bit more bulky than a wetsuit. but in the end it's safer, warmer and more useful.

Wet suits aren`t going to be too comfortable to paddle in.

They are normally really tight.

For November water temps, I`d use a 7MM.

One question... you`ll have a wet suit and you`ll put a snow suit over top?

As much as it`s bulky... use the float suit. It`ll be a lot safer.

Even better... don`t go yaking in November!

I remember a cople guys going canoeing and braking ice to get some nice bass.....   ..in the region.

i need something better then a survival suit.(ex the one i got a hensen alpha one,,or my other mustang suite..).because if i flip,in a sit inside kayak.you need a lot off time.and dont have that time in a survival suit.

survival suit,,the regular one we buy to ice fish is good for a bit off time but not that mutch..people think they can get a lot off time..but it hint..that good unles you pay big price.

Joco I was out last year with dry pants and a semi-dry top layered with under-amour and a paddling shirt. It wasn't my body which was cold it was my feet and hands.
For my feet, the problem was the regular boot isn't high enough for launching. I was thinking of picking up a set of a pair of swellies to correct that problem. The price has been dropped to $25.00

For the hands, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Regular paddling gloves don't offer much warmth and you can't fish with winter gloves.

What I'd really like to have is this complete dry suit, but it costs as much as a kayak.

http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_deta ... 9033469902

Maybe next year I'll pick up a 4/3 wetsuit. At least its only $110.00.

This year you just might see me out in my dryant and dry top with my neoprene waders on the outside. :? At least my feet will stay wet.

Clothing aside, IMHO, paddling in cold water should never be done solo. We all make solo trips in the summer but with water this cold going solo is just asking for trouble.

Joco go see some scuba diving shops that rent wet suits , every year they sell some of there rentals at a good discount you could even rent one to try out. That's how I bought my wet suit years ago when I scuba dived, but I sold it after a few years, for some reason it shrank on me
