Jiffy 2HP(lightning) vs 3HP(M. 30)-UPDATE Read story-post#10

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Jiffy 2HP(lightning) vs 3HP(M. 30)-UPDATE Read story-post#10

Post by fatluke »

Has anyone had any issues with a 2 HP auger?

Can anyone compare (from experience) the two HP's augers mentioned above?

Are any 2HP ownerès regretting and wishing you went with the 3HP?

Going to pick up an auger this week but it's a toss up between the two. They both have their positives and negatives. My main concern is if the the 2HP is "ballsy" enough for 36 inches or more..

Thanks in advance
Luke

I've got a 2hp 9" Jiffy lightning and never had any issues at all(satisfied) Did have one real cold morning where she was tempermental...

I have tried a 3hp 10" Jiffy and it was very strong as well but... loud!

Is a 2hp with a 9" bit Ballsy... definately

With a 10 though I'm unsure :?

Accent came from Joco's keyboard... lol.. jk Joco....

It came from hitting the left-alt key + shift key. It changes the input language of your keyboard.. Can switch back by hitting those keys again.

Thanks for the info.. Good to know because the 2HP lightning happens to be the cheapest one...Not to mention it is 7lbs lighter that the 3 HP.. This makes a difference to me as I do not have a SLED or ATV Yet...

I own a Jiffy 3HP, used it for ever...got tired of carrying it...it's heavy. My buddy has the 2 HP and I can't see a difference. Went out last week and got the 2HP lightning.

Can wait to drill. For me 2HP is more than enough.

I bought a 3hp Model 30 Jiffy last yearand the thing is gold! Starts within 3 pulls always, and cuts likea charm. Its only a 8inch but she gets the job done!

I guess she's heavy, never really thought of it! Just throw her on top of my fish trap and drag her around!

Either the 2hp or 3hp is gonna be a great investment!

I have the 2hp with 8" blade. Jiffy. And i wouldn't change it for anything.

It might be .000654787 min. slower then a 3hp on 36" of ice but who's counting. But it is a lot lighter.

So go with the 2hp you won't regret it.

Jiffy Lightning

Post by rick1117 »

I have a 2 HP Jiffy Lightning 9" and love it rips right thru the ice. It starts easily and as for hauling it around I always use my skidoo so that is not an issue with me. You won't make a mistake buying it.

Alright lads,

Thanks for all the tips.. I guess I'm going with with the 2HP, 9 inch lightning.

Graembo from the board here is my roommate. After sweating our jewels off last year with the manual, we figured we could acquire a power auger this year, for free or next to nothing.. and well it looks like it will cost us $12.50 each.. Well depending on how you look at it, it could be costing us around $5000 bucks.

See we both own big trucks, so we decided to use the "multiplier" coupon and get all out gas at Canadian Tire for the last year. Graembo also has a 150 HP outboard on his boat, so that was fueled at Crappy Tire as well...This amounted to us saving $304 bucks in Candian Tire Money.... We also like to have the odd beer.. :D so we saved out empties for the last year as well.... we ended up retuning 7 24's, 2 28's, 2 15's, a 6 pack, and 998 cans... This landed us an additional $125 bucks.. So we have $430 of virtually "free" money..

Just thought I would share this story, and I would recommend all fisherman get gas at Canadian Tire and drink lots of beer...lol

Luke.

Ya Joco, the 10x coupons are great.. especially when the tank is empty and you get 90-100 bucks of gas..

A few of my buddies have Jiffy's so I know how much of a luxury it is to use one. I will appreciate it more and more each time I use it. Last year with the manual auger, we did not move around as much as we wanted to because it was just too much drilling through 36 inches of ice...

Bring on the cold!
