Oct. 7th Smallies

Post by fishmaster »

I just got back from a great day on a local lake. The fishing was a little slow but the quality of fish made up for the quantity. It was a beautiful day with hardly a breeze and not a cloud in the sky
Image.

I spent a while fishing a long point and was rewarded with these 2 beauties early on...

The one on the left is 5-0 lbs and the one on the right is 4-4.

Heres a few more pics of just the 5

After these 2 fish I only managed one more over 4lbs but I did catch a few more in the high 3's(I couldn't get any more pics because the guy taking pics for me left early) If this had of been a tourney day I would have had my first 20lb bag(5-0,4-4,3-9,3-7,3-5) All in all it was a great day and I just hope I can continue this trend for the next couple of days. I have to make the most of this awsome weather. :D

20 lb bag...

Wow Fishmaster, you really did have a great day on the lake to-day, now didn't you? That 5 lb'er is a real fatty, as far as Smallies go. Congrats on unlocking part of the fall code of that lake, to-day. Care to share what they hit on?

I suspect they may have been in the 10 - 15 foot depth range on your rocky point, or were they deeper? I like crayfishy lookin' jigs this time of year or shad raps if they seem active and chasing. Once in awhile, especially when conditions are similar to how they were to-day, Smallies will just smash a blue and silver Tiny Torpedo, worked in six to twelve inch pulls at a fairly steady pace. They will come up from that depth for this pattern, when the bite is on. Woa, the moon is Full. The bite is on...

Hope ya hook-up with more when you hit the lake again.

Tight lines,

LarryB (one of the newbies here)

Hey larrybass, the 5lber fell victim to one of my own hand poured Senkos(watermelon/copper flake) and the rest came on tubes and white spinnerbaits. I tried jerkbaits, topwater, grubs and deep diving cranks but I couldn't buy a bite with any of those. As far as depths and patterns they are not relating to normal areas for this time of year. All the fish came from between 4ft and 10 ft of water. I tried deep areas where I thought they should be but they don't seem to be there yet. The water is still fairly warm(60f by noon) so I think they are just roaming( I saw lots of fish but they wouldn't bite anything). The fish weren't realting to the rocks today, I caught all my fish on sand/weed edges. This was suprising to me because that is more of a mid-summer pattern.

I love that lake Fishmaster! Way to go and congrats on hitting the weather right. It is wierd how, at this time last year, they were on the deep water pattern. Hmmmm....must be water temp!
