Name: Marty Gutzman
Nickname: Fishmaster
From: Deep River, Ontario
Date Caught: May, 2006
Weight: 6.2 lbs
Technique/Lure: 5/16oz tube in Avacado color rigged on a 7' Shimano Compre spinning rod and a 1500 series Shimano Symatre reel.

Here is my first bass over 5lbs ever, it was actually 6lbs 2 ozs. I caught it in May on Lake Erie on the New York side. I was using a 5/16oz tube in Avacado color rigged on a 7' Shimano Compre spinning rod and a 1500 series Shimano Symatre reel. This fish was released so I can catch her again this fall(I Hope).

gorgeous fish!!

lake smallies seem to grow bigger than river smallies.....i guess they spend less energy on fighting current and more on growing....

just out of curiousity, how deep were you fishing?

I caught that fish in 12ft of water. The week that we were there the fish were getting ready to spawn so they were fairly shallow. Here's a pic of the 5lber I caught today. It weighed in at 5-0 exactly( I weighed it 6 times because I thought it was bigger than it was weighing).

Thanks for the compliments people, I have another pic to show off. I had one of the best weekends of my life this weekend fishing smallies. I had only caught 2 smallies over 5 prior to this weekend and this weekend I caught 3  These 2 were caught on Monday, one came on a Phenix 212 tube in 6ft of water(the one on the left) and the other one came on a drop shot in 12ft of water(the one on the right and sorry but I can't tell you what type of lure it's a secret :P ) These 2 fish were 5-7(left) and 5-5(right) repsectively. Man I love fall fishing, too bad I used all my vacation up  , I do have a few sick days left though..HMMMMM

Sice it's up for debate, I'm going on record and saying not even close. Beautiful fat smallie, but not 5lbs. Especially the last 2.

Bigger than anything I've ever caught though.

If we're talking about the 1st one, then YES, I think it meets the 5 lb criteria. Wish it wasn't a spawning bass we were talking about, though, regardless of which side of the border it was taken on.

Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

Congratulations Fishmaster,

You've been added to the Nickle+ club. Nice looking smallies.

What's your first name?
