Spring Fling with the Kings

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Spring Fling with the Kings

Post by steve-hamilton »

Dad, george and I decided to do some trolling this morning for some kings....

I knew the browns were hitting well towards hamilton, but instead we decided to go in search of the screamers. After a small line up at the launch (6:15am), then some problems with a dead cranking battery, we managed to drop lines around 7am....

Water temps were around 40 degrees, and the clarity was only about 10 feet (or less), much better than the 40' that has been around the shores lately. We set ou a 6 line spread, and it didn't take long to find out the Kings were around.....

We fished for about 6 hours, and ended up 5-8, all Kings. Two were shakers, both under 5 pounds....but the other fish were all quality.

Here's some pics, cause we all know a report without pics is like a fishing boat without a motor. ;)

With fish like the one above, its easy to see why tackle manufacturers dont make hardware strong enough for them:

Hope this is an indication of the season to come....2004 was unreal. 2005 was tough.....i'm hoping 2006 will be the best ever.

not sure about your neck of the woods, but right now, most fish are being taken off long lines or boards....

however, obviously riggers still work.

Steve please post where your going Thursday... my boat is now ready, and I'd like to get out there...

I have a bud, I'd like to take, so I'll use my boat, but I have yet to try this on my own, and may need to discuss over a coffee before launch or over 2-way/cell phone...

Have dipsys and will be picking up inlines. Browns may be my target for this reason...

thanks

Hey Steve,

I'm out in Ottawa... I normally travel to Port Hope when I head down.

However have not done the spring thing. Have been reading much more on it and noticing riggers don't appear to be as much of a necessity.

Best of luck on Thursday.
