Hey there,
BC fisherman, moved to Ottawa during covid. I like both fly fishing and conventional. Looking to learn how to catch new species such as pike and pickerel which weren't really available where I was out West. I also need to figure out where to find trout at some point. Eventually I'll venture out to the great lakes and fish for Salmon, like I used to on the West coast.
Cheers!

Pike and walleye (yellow pickerel) seasons are just opening in Eastern Ontario and May is prime time to catch them before the weather heats up.
There are a variety of streams and smaller lakes in Eastern Ontario with rainbow, speckled, lake and brown trout and the Great Lakes offer opportunities for chinook, coho, pink and atlantic salmon as well as great lakes steelhead, brown trout, walleye and pike.
If you have not already found the website Fish ON-Line is a good starting spot to research different lakes in Ontario and the species in the lakes, as well searching here on Fish-Hawk.net as we have over 20 years of fishing information.

Best of luck and look forward to reading some fishing reports in the near future.
Tight lines!!

Re: Hello!
Thanks for the Welcome Jim.
I'm planning to go out for pike on Sat. My lakes choice are White Lake or Mississippi lake. I've had best luck on Miss lake in the past, but I've never been out this early. I was out scouting White Lake last weekend, it's early enough that there are no weed beds yet. I'm hoping to be able to find some pike in the bays, especially with the nice sunny week we've had.

Re: Hello!
Either lake will work for pike, most will be small. You can get walleye in both lakes as well. I prefer Mississippi.roydizzle wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 5:51 pm Thanks for the Welcome Jim.
