Day 2 - Niagara River - RJ. Muskiemagnet, Markus

Post by Markus »

Our plan was to cruise down to the mouth of the river and hopefully hook into a few lake trout. The water clarity was about a foot and the wind wasn't the best, but we where there to fish lakers and damn it - that's what we were gonna do!!!

We each chose a different set up and went to work on our first drift. RJ went with a jig& twister, I chose the three way with minnow and MM tied on a crippled herring spoon. RJ got the action started with our first laker of the day!

Image

We repeated the same drift a few more times and came up empty handed so we decided to set up in a new spot and try a new drift. We didn't have the rods down for 10 seconds and I was into my first laker! Suddenly MM yells that he has one too! Then a third rod buckles over! Fish On!! We lost the third, but MM and I landed our first of many double headers of the day!

Then Muskiemagnet took over with his spoon jigging and repetedly boated some absolute gorgeous lakers.

We all took turns hooking and netting fish throughout the day. It was non stop and we enjoyed every second of it. RJ spent a lot of time with the net and camera in his hand and had to play catch up on the scoreboard for the most of the day. Here's Mr Jackson with another...

Image

These fish were strong and full of fight. Although MM grabbed an early lead on the scoreboard, it was a horse race to the end. Before heading home we had 29 lakers in the boat and the score was MM-12, Markus-12 and RJ-5.....so we had to make one more drift in search of laker #30. With a sweep of the rod and a firm hook set....yours truly had #30 and #13 for the day.

Image

We were all humbled and amazed by the absolute beautiful day we had on the water and with the quality and quantity of fish we boated.

We have one more day to go!! We'll be back on the river at 7am and we'll be looking for more lake trout!!
