All of my fly fishing gear is barbless and much of my tackle is as well. I find it's significantly easier to remove hooks, they do less damage to the fish and I haven't noticed any major difference with respect to catch rates.
I'm also coming from a trout fishing, primarily C&R, background.

Re: Rigger fishing for Lakers ?
Yeah, I'd try it out first and then make a decision. The biggest thing I think you'd notice between the Double Eagle and a jon style boat, is how close you can get to the water with the latter. On the Double Eagle, you're "in" the boat. In the jon style, you're "on top" of the bo...

Re: Rigger fishing for Lakers ?
What type of boat do you have? I went through the same dilemma when I moved out here from BC as I had an 18 foot welded aluminum boat setup for big lake trolling, but it wasn't all that great for other styles of fishing (it had a closed in bow, full windshield, gas kicker, etc.). I decided to get ri...

Re: Trout in Rideau?
Agree with the others, you can fly fish for anything. I've caught loads of panfish on dry flies in the lakes out here, so I don't see why they wouldn't take them on rivers if they are in there. Also, casting upstream and letting your fly work it's way downstream is how you present virtually every fl...

Re: Fish-Hawk member rigs
Thanks Jul0682 and BradGuenette.
I'd love to step up to an 18 footer, but my garage wouldn't, LOL
It really is a great rig though. It's super versatile, easy to manage, cheap to run and loads of room.

Here's a pic of my boat. Just a 16 foot tiller, but she gets the job done nicely!

Re: Ottawa Boat & Sportsman Show 2016
I checked out the show today and I have to say, there were allot of very nice boats to see. That said, is it just me or have the prices of new aluminum boats gone absolutely BONKERS?????? I have a 16 foot aluminum tiller with a 70 and saw the same model boat with a side console and a 75 for 10K more...

Re: 2016 Fishing Goals??
I've decided that 2016 is the year that I dust off the fly rods (haven't seen much use since moving out here from BC about 4 years ago) and get back to chucking fur and feathers instead of plastic and metal. I'm also going to pickup a 10 weight and hit the Rideau and Ottawa and try and get a Musky o...

Re: Winterizing
I agree with the others. It's only an issue if you have water in your lower unit (not normal) or your engine hasn't been allowed to drain after its last use and it freezes with water in the cooling passages. Unless you have one of those two situations, there is no need to worry. p.s. The 14 day fore...

Re: float tubes
Float tubes are great for stillwater, but I WOULD NEVER recommend one for moving water. I can't stress that enough. You don't want to be floating down a river with your legs hanging 3 feet underneath you, not knowing what they could hang up in. If they do get caught and the tube keeps going (with yo...

Re: Sunday fun day on the good ole Mississippi
I haven't been out to the Mississippi this year yet, but I was on the Rideau last weekend and I sure thought that there were far fewer weeds than I recall seeing in years past at this time.
Great fish and great job taking those fine folks out!

Re: Punchin' a Rideau River Mule in the Mouth
Awesome fish! That looks exactly like the stuff I was fishing on Saturday. I didn't manage to land any fish, but I did have a couple of hookups on frogs. The second fish I hooked had some weight to it and took a really aggressive swipe at the frog so that was pretty cool.

Re: Kamloops BC HELP!!!
No, there really isn't anything like sunfish in that area. The closest would probably be Northern Pikeminnow, which are considered a coarse fish but they can be found in most of the larger river systems. Most of the lakes in the area will focus on rainbows, either stocked or wild strain. Fly fishing...
