No eating, drinking or smoking in the boat until you catch a fish - any fish.
I like the dipping of the net while trout fishing. If there ever was a fish that needed every bit of superstition it could get, its trout.

Re: BOVT PICTURES!!
Ah ha! Top water bugs eh? Totally going to copy you and fish the Miss dry. Jokes. It can be tough to get picks of a flopping bass in the canoe for sure. If you can get a 1x4 board or similar and glue a measuring tape to it, works great. I also keep my thumb in the mouth and lay it down, seems that t...

Sorry to hear about your truck, hope its not in the shop too long.
Nice fish! At 19" that is the largest on the board right now I'm pretty sure.
Tight lines,

Re: Do you EAT Bass? Just curious...
Bass are good eating, but IMO you have to filet and eat them right away (same day). I would much rather eat a walleye or a pike (if you know how to filet them) than a bass. I grew up keeping almost all the fish we caught but now I would only keep the odd trout for food. If I'm camping then I'll usua...

Nice bass!
Always a nice feeling when you try a new spot and get rewarded. Nice bait selection, I'm a big fan of the watermelon colors.

Re: Bobs lake launch
Sunset Country campground in the southwest corner by Tichborne has a good ramp and lots of parking. If you want the other end of the lake, Cedar Haven cottages has a ramp you can use...its in the wrong location on google maps - here's the co-ordinates...44.711800, -76.566688 Third place is steep, bu...

Re: Muskie rod recommendation
I am far from an expert, but I use one of these:

It was given to me by a neighbor that was cleaning out his garage. I put a Penn reel on it and it works great. It is a one piece, but I find it fits fine in vehicles.

Nice fish and a great read. I really enjoy your posts - especially the one from James Bay. I actually followed your journey on google maps, found the goose hunting camp on the bank of the river etc...amazing adventure.

Lake Placid / Saranac Lake area
Hello All, Looking for a bit of advice as to where I could start looking for trout in the Lake Placid area that isn't the Ausable River or any of its branches (I won't be fly fishing) Don't need specific spots, just like to know if you've had any luck on Pond X or Lake X, or a certain stretch of a c...

After my fishing plans on Saturday fell through (*cough*..ROB..*cough*) I decided to head back to Strathcona and make the best of my morning.

Re: Christie Lake / Area
I would suggest you try Sharbot Lake, a bit farther down the 7.
They have a good launch right in town. Lots of islands, channels, bays and points to keep you busy all day.

Re: The rapids at Strathcona
No luck at Porter Island. They have an iron fence around the whole perimeter, no place to cast.
Looked like a great spot off the western point though. Need to go back in a canoe.
You get any hits on the popper?

Re: trout stocking
Ice fishing decimates the trout population on those little lakes. If you want to see how to properly manage a fishery, look at what they do in upstate NY. Many lakes and rivers are catch and release (and you can only use barbless hooks), there are slot sizes, ice fishing is heavily regulated - and t...
