I use a 10ft Old Town angler model - it is very light (39lbs) and stable but not very fast owing to its shape. It is a sit-in, versus sit-on-top style of kayak - of course, there are adv. and dis. to both styles, none of which I think are deal-breakers...at the end of the day, I think it boils down ...

I can't speak to the lakers (just learning myself) but with brookies, I favor vertical over horizontal presentations after Victoria Day. Brook trout between now and Sept. are likely to be deep, but not that deep - 20 to 30ft depending on the lake and not too far from shore. I like to hit steep shore...

I will usually try to set myself up so that I'm casting parallel to the outer 1/3rd of the weed edge - stop and go, burn the lure or drop it into pockets depending on the structure, presentation/mood of the fish. My favorite weeds - cabbage spaced about 1 to 3 feet apart with "dark" water ...

Hey Craig - thanks again for a great day at NASA lake! - you are lucky to have such a reliable "go to" lake in your own backyard. Although we didn't boat any monsters, it's hard to argue with pike on just about every cast once you're into the pattern - it was almost comical by the end of t...

Looking for an old post

Hi - within the past year or so, someone was kind enough to post a couple of hydrographic charts for the Ottawa River Shirley's Bay area in this forum - I believe in a reply to a thread. I've searched up and down for the past hour or so using "ottawa river map" "ottawa river west end&...

I've been fortunate to have done the Gouin trip many times - after hauling up a ton of stick baits, spoons, spinner-baits and topwaters, for pike, the Red Devil reigns supreme. Simple, but its success can't be argued with. We've found that the walleye up there tend to come in waves (likely schools) ...

Craig - you were holding out on me! :) Seriously though, well done on getting back out on the water after a tough outing in the blistering heat. Must have been a blast to pick off nearly 30 fish in a few hours! :) Amazing how the fish activity can vary from body of water to body of water on the same...

This is an area I've been wanting to explore more as well given that I live about 5 minutes away. The one time I've been there it struck me as more or less shallow, flat and sandy with a few weeds here and there (certainly more by the entrance to the restricted bay). I gather 'eyes can be had in the...

No surprises here:

1) #2 Black Mepps Fury (yellow) tipped w/worm
2) Little cleo (orange and silver) 1/3oz w/worm
3) small spoon>12" line>orange jig head w/ worm

Depth and location varies depending on season, of course. I had great luck this weekend with presentation #1 and #2.
