Re: New World Record Musky

The fish in question is not a WR....because it was not kept. Don't think it was weighed...but doesn't matter as far as records go, because it wasn't kept. NOT an Ottawa River fish. Congrats to the angler. This portion of my response is about the fish you are mentioning, totally different fish than ...

Re: First ski

Yes they eat cats, maybe not large cats but for sure juvenille cats and bullheads. Weight(kg) = 0.0000418 x ((length-cm X girth-cm)^1.441) - That is believed to be the most accurate formula for estimating weight of muskies and pike. Better yet just punch the #`s in here and pick the formula you want...

Re: First ski

First off congrats on your first muskie, something you will never forget. You might hope you had never caught one in a few years and 10's of thousands of dollars...haha That fish looks to be in the 34-36 inch range.....and might weigh 10 pounds. For reference the typical 50 inch muskie is in the 30l...

Re: Trying a new area!

Sure, but you have to get to them. A 20 k wind blowing into Norway will give ya 3 foot waves. I have an 18ft deep v, and I can easily get in all those same back bays.

Better safe than sorry. Its big water, bring the biggest boat you can.

Re: Trying a new area!

16ft, if it gets windy you are going to need it, a west to south wind will be rocking pretty big waves in Norway bay.

And if you don't already have one, get a map, your lower unit will thank you. Treacherous waters on that portion of the river, especially the Quebec side.

Re: lac des chats

Braeside Launch, Usborne road. Its free. The only Islands you can camp on are directly across from that launch, or downriver under the train bridge on the QC side of the river. The islands upriver, starting at the Narrows of Kennedy Islands are owned(or leased?) by some Eco Tourism Company or someth...

Re: Remember this guy??

Yes, and his boss. This guy frequently writes about fish and fishing stories, but has no clue about the sport himself?

Anyway, gotta go I have deadline to meet for Chatelaine

Re: Live bait on the Ottawa River

The QC ministry is phasing in the no live bait rule on the Ottawa. The rest of the province is already no live bait year round, so this year the QC ministry implemented it from April 1st until...icefishing...no live bait. Almost everybody was not aware of this. Also, even when you could use live bai...

Re: Musky combo choices?

If you are going to by just one reel, you probably DO NOT want a high speed reel. Something in a gear ratio around 5:1 is going to be a much better "all purpose" choice. The harder a bait pulls, the lower gear ratio, makes them easier reel in. Baits like tandem spinner baits, Big double bl...

Re: Muskies trying to jump new dam in WI.

Its a river system, the Madison chain I believe. Muskies, like a lot of species actually have a homing instinct to their spawning grounds. I believe they are trying to return to to their spawning grounds, likely where they were released as fingerlings in this case as they are all stocked fish. Here ...

This topic has been brought up and beat up many, many times..... Just buy the regular license, remove any doubt and give the MNR a little extra coin.....they sure could use it.

Congrats on your first lunger, don't worry about the picture, you'll have more opportunities for that.

You sure weren't making it easy on yourself fishing that stretch this time of year.... that makes your first that much more special....the improbabilty of it.

Good Fishin!!
