Re: Never used pop up and little buddy heater... Not for sal

The road you would need to take to get there is Montee Lafontaine, is also called Rainville. Be warned, its a good 1kkm walk from parking to where the castor and nation meet.

Its frozen and safe but as already pointed out walleye is closed in 18. You can still target pike though.

Re: Ice Reports - Ottawa River - Shirley's Bay

How are the snow levels/drivability at Shirley's? Last time I was out there it was fairly deep and slushy underneath so I'm wondering if conditions have improved or if its rutted and rough. Is it passable in a smaller car?

Re: Casselman & Nation River

Sounds good avidangler. Thanks for the info. I assume the one in casselman is at the high falls conservation area. That's the one I was thinking of launching from. I'll avoid the castor. Maybe I'll be stuck picking up a chaloupe....lol Yes its the one at High falls conservation area. No problem and...

Re: What's best for fishing? New moon or full moon?

I think that it depends on the fish your after. Walleye and musky seem to be heavily influenced by the moon cycles, probably because there vision is good and its in there best interest to feed when the moon is out and bright and they have the sight advantage. However, this factor should be very low...

Re: spring pike

Ive always found dead bait outside of the hard water season brings in catfish regardless of depth. they just seem to love it. Also using 8"+ dead minnows you can catch long nosed gar but that's more of a night bite.

Re: Casselman & Nation River

There are a few launch's. One in Embrun. One in Casselmen right by the dam and a steep one in Limoge. The widest and deepest you will find is in Casselmen where the Nation and Castor meet, your boat would be fine there. I think the deepest Ive seen there was in the 20' range. Could you launch your b...

Re: Poachers, what to do?

Mudpuppies are not endangered, in fact their population as a whole is quite healthy. However that doesn't make leaving it on the ice any less of a selfish, ignorant or illegal act. I hope they're caught and fined. It really illustrates in my opinion the mentality of some people and why conservation ...

Re: Looking for some advice on a good musky reel

Thank you for the input. I'm going to have to take a closer look at the Calcutta 400 B for sure. I've got a few months before the first Saturday in June so I'll probably wait for the Valley hunting and fishing show. Who knows what kind of deals can be found "cough in the general direction of th...

Re: Looking for some advice on a good musky reel

Thank you Jon,

What sort of line are you running and how many yards are you getting on it? I prefer a braid myself in the 80lb range.

Looking for some advice on a good musky reel

As the title states. I just returned a Cardiff 400a that imo performed well all season long until mid-November when the handle became loose from the reel body. After asking around Ive been lead to believe that for the amount of fishing I do throughout the season it would be better to spend more mone...

Large Minnow rigs

Typically I fish walleye with medium size minnows (2.5-3.5") on a spoon or jig head. This weekend Ive decided to target some pike and will be using some 5" plus minnows. I'm looking for some advice on how to rig them up. I usually try and stay away from massive amounts of metal you would f...
