Re: Tougher fishing this year?
The season opener was crap! Way too cold. Found a few with mudpuppies in them.... definitley still on the winter pattern at that time. Water in the high 30's.... The ice was off the lake a day or 2 before we showed up. I wish I could do the brookie trip a few times a year like I used to... just can'...

Tougher fishing this year?
Sure, I'm still catching fish, but I've noticed right from the begining of trout season, it's been a tougher bite than usual, and it's carried on throughout the season so far. Anecdotal ramp-side shop talk reveals the same for others... What's going on? The late spring? Weird weather? Even more weir...

Re: Catching Bait - minows etc.
Even just fish them with tiny minnow sized hooks and bit of worms. I have a few multi hook harnesses for catching bait. Saves having to rebait often. I bring along one of my kids tight mesh nets , and once the feeding frenzy starts around the line, just scoop them up. Can get a weeks worth in no tim...

Maybe cut into steaks and bbq'd like tuna since it's firm? These things can get quite big.
I avoided eating pike for years until I tried it and could believe how good it was, so shows you never know until you try.

Re: 1979 Mercury 200 20hp - water pump issues
You should be getting water out the pee hole. Sometime if the old impelled that was changed was busted up some pieces can clog the line. If you have a compressor you can blow air back through the pee hole to free any clog. However taking off the lower unit should be done before that. Bah dropping a ...

Re: Resurrecting an old outboard
I used to &^$#$@ around with old half running motors... (before having kids) ..but no more... The time I spend on the water with stuff that works the way it supposed to every time is more valuable than the payment. By the time you get the parts and time into getting it working, something else go...

Re: Umbrella Rig
It's 3 in QC. I have a few, I've had no luck, but I haven't give it much time. Not my confidence bait. Don't know if I'm missing out, the US tournaments are coo-coo for coco puffs over them. They created a buzz a while back when they first came out here, but I haven't heard much since. Either everyo...

Re: My first Freshwater Drum (Sheephead)
Never eaten one myself but from what I have hears they can be a bit oily, so they need to go on ice ASAP so they don't stink up. Also, avoid the red bits in the filets. Would be nice to hear how it turned out.

Anchor snags
I have a spot I like to anchor at, but the bottom must be filled with logs and boulders because I have snagged (and lost) 3 anchors so far! I had been using river anchors, (lost 1 small danforth as well). Anyone have any experience with something that is less prone to snags? (besides a gps anchor, L...
