I was out at the Ottawa River near the mouth this morning (pre dawn) and caught a few eyes casting a 5a Bomber from shore. Once the sun was up and quickly turning over-cast i switched to 5/8 ounce hair jigs dragged across the bottom for a few more eyes. The only other guy out was in a Sylvan/Merc pa...

Welcome Buster. I'm not sure where you will staying/launching Upper or Lower but, you may want to check out the East side of Avery Point. There are a few good weedlines out a few hundred feet from shore, near the south end (tip) that were kind to me over the years. I caught lots of eyes unintentiona...

Anyone heading out today? (2004 post)

I'm heading out in about an hour to hit the Rideau for some Crappies or the Ottawa for some cats. Anyone interested?..........even after the cold front!

Hey guys.

Nice fish! and report. Xenos, I see that you've reported these cats to be shallow. Could you comment on the set-up/components..... what was effective.

Thanks

Hey Xenos...BASSSTALKER, I put lots of hours in last week. I fished everywhere from Ottawa(proper) all over the Rideau and down to Prescott and as far east as Kingston. The Perch and Crappie have been hit and miss....blahblahblah :) Do you guys know if the cats are happening around Arnprior? Slop.

BASSSTALKER,

Have you considered trying salt IMPREGNATED plastic?

There are so many scent IMPREGNATED baits on the market and like all lures/baits they have their time and place. No need to cast away the salt.......Explore :D

The witching hour gets the nod from me.

Those post-spawn sagging-bellied females need all the protein they can get.

I don't target eyes much at night in the summer. If we get a few during the day, night time finds us sharing good laughs, a feed of eyes, beverages and drooling on my pillow.

So this is "pg 2" ..............probably not in Torornto, Ottawa or at any Shows or Derbies. Not done with the "ssippi" just yet.

Is this a Poll?

Markus, definatley try the braided types or the fused types. All i can say is when i had to fish perch in 30+FOW the braids and fused easily out produced any mono on the market.Theres just too much stretch and memory in mono to get a good hook-set in deeper water, trust me i found out the hard way.
