Re: Problem with Fishfinder

the 2 finders you are looking at were good when they came out (100 years ago in sonar years :) ). A member here has a couple for sale. The hummingbird 959 would be far superior than the 2 you are looing at. It has down imaging and newer than the eagle or the 595. also it is a 9 inch screen (bigger i...

Re: New techniques you want to try

... I like to start dropshotting at about 12ft so I was looking for a soft plastic presentation other than a wacky rig to fish 12ft. and shallower. I have found that in the Neko rig. ... DropShot'r, I have thrown a tube on a drop shot into 4 fow where I would normally toss a frog - result was a 5lb...

New techniques you want to try

We all have our favourite techniques that are our goto methods for catching fish. My favourite is definitely drop shotting followed by crank-baits, Late last year I started throwing a NED rig with much success. There are sone techniques that I do nor use: 1) Jigs - can't stand them. I keep buying th...

Re: 13 Fishing Rods

Only thing that mattes is that you like it. Used properly (line strength and bait weight) you will quickly know if it was a good buy. Some of my favourite rods are my least expensive. 1) Crucial Jig n Worm 2) Fenwick elitetech (original black and yellow) got on clearance from lebaron. Probably my fa...

Re: Boat brands Crestliner vs Smokercraft

The smokercraft model you are looking at can handle a bigger motor (look at the 16 xl sc. its the same boat but rated for a 60. They do this kind of shenanigans to have a price point version.

The crestliner fishes bigger and will really perform with a 40. also better resale

Re: Bearing upgrades - your thoughts appreciated

I toyed with the idea of replacing bearings, but the cost did not make sense in a high end reel. Maintenance is more important than upgrading bearings. I used to tear down all my reels over the winter. Some that I rarely used more than once or twice a season. It became a bit of a chore to do all of ...

Re: Off-season gear-up: looking for advice on baitcasters

The bite's been really off in the parking lot. Must be the change in weather. Ed Well Ed you have to throw some of them back in the summer, so that recruitment can happen! Don't you read Just fishing? They (Gord Pyzer, Dr. Bruce Tafts etc.) keep talking about selective harvest and recruitme...

Re: Reusing gaskets?

Gaskets are meant to be replaced.
as stated before you might get away with re-using them, but in the long run it is better to find them and replace them.
