Re: Good power/action for a Frog Rod?
I guess it goes to show that there are a million ways to fish. I generally use lighter braid on spinning gear. Say 30-50lb Power Pro Super Slick (likely start winding on the new Maxcuatro as I need distance without a boat) I use an old med-hvy fiberglass rod, with a really slow tip. Frogs tend to be...

Get the racks!
Never been to that location, but while shore fishing is often possible the ability to get out on the water is the best.
Besides - she gets what she wants, so you can maybe get what you want. (especially if you can then leave the camper and get into some really back area lakes)

Actually the more places that are posted the less it becomes a highway... spreads things around. Posting a location doesn't make more anglers.... ... however posting more locations spreads them out. Re: Will a 1.5 lbs anchor be suitable for canoe?
I fish in river current with lots of rock bottom and cracks / holes so I use a 5lb mushroom style anchor. Way less likely to snag but still grabs bottom good. You need to use a length of chain though to make sure that it tips over on its side and doesn't roll around. Much safer on the canoe bottom a...

Re: Where to find Bowfin in Ottawa
Ummm.... I'm really confused now - I didn't say they were introduced to Eastern Canada or the USA... just the Ottawa River. Are you now saying they are a Native Species to the Ottawa River? You just said that you haven't ever seen them in the Ottawa River. I even posted the generally accepted distri...

Re: Where to find Bowfin in Ottawa
I've spent countless hours in the shallows of the Ottawa River around the city and have NEVER seen one. In the lakes I have caught them you do see them, fairly often. They are prolific in the St. Lawrence that's for sure. Lakes I have caught them in. Dog and Beverley. RJ Which brings me full round ...

Re: Where to find Bowfin in Ottawa
@RJ - agreed they aren't guppies and they wouldn't be listed under Bowfin. They would likely be Amia calva or some other kinda cute name usually a native or other historical name most likely: German Bass Brindle Beaverfish Scaled Ling Cypress Trout Choupique Dogfish Here is one of the better pages o...
