Re: Bait near Alfred, Lefaivre, Plantagenet?

There used to be a guy at the boat launch in Wendover. At the end of Du Quai.

673-1603. Pete's minnows.

Pretty sure that they are house foundations. From an area that was flooded because of hydroelctric dams or when they built the seaway.

Re: Favorite Prensentation for River Walleye

Use a heavier jig to keep contact with bottom, I've heard of 2oz jigs for fishing the St.Lawrence and use thin line, 8-10 lbs braid is really thin. When I fish in current I usually drift with the current and tie on a jig heavy enough for it to go straight down.

Re: Holding Pens

A limit means you can not exceed the total catch limit of a species in a specific fishing zone. For example: I fish Zone 25 ( Ottawa River) -I catch my limit of 5 Walleye and keep my limit of 5 to bring home. -The same night I filet and eat 2 walleye, leaving 3 remaining in the freezer. -The next d...

Re: Holding Pens

We had a fish cage when we used to do the walleye opener, because of no freezer available. But we always kept a count of the walleyes in it and what we could still catch. I was the only one filleting for a group of 8. So Sunday nights was a busy time for me. But it kept me busy while the others woul...

Re: Can't catch big blues and flatheads

I used shrimps as bait when I used to go for cats. You can buy a bag of(75) shelled shrimps for about 7-8 dollars at any grocery store. I used to soak them in a garlic juice and catfish loved them. There are some fair size channel cats in the river but you'll catch a pile of smaller ones too.

Re: Talking with a conservation officer

Here's the butterfly (circled in black) of what I used to use as a jig trailer. It is a really though meaty piece so it'll last a full day.

Re: Talking with a conservation officer

I meant they were not legal in Quebec even before the live minnow ban. And that walleye butterfly that I am talking about is usually not eaten.

I second what smitty55 said, the first thing to try is a can of Seafoam. Available at CTC.

Re: Talking with a conservation officer

The comment about the fish parts is really interesting. That means that using a walleye fish part would be authorized!! When I was a young lad somebody told me about the walleye butterfly!! Which is a small v-shaped part of skin that is right under the lowerjaw of the walleye. I had used that multip...

Larry might be right, it sure looks like it's licensing issue. Rogers is still carrying it in New Brunswick and Newfoundland.

For some reason it was decommissioned in Ontario yesterday. I will try to get more info on the reason why.
