Re: Roller vs Bunk trailer
I've only ever had bunk trailers, but I've had no problem with them at all. The one area where rollers seem to be better are at shallow launches when you can't float the boat off of the trailer. In those cases, I'm told that launching is a simple case of giving the boat a bit of a push and it slides...

Re: Right or wrong???!
I don't think he was out of line unless he was targeting bass or he was hanging around in the area after catching bass. At this time of year, I think everything that swims can be caught in the same area and the fish are aggressive. The same presentation could catch different fish and there is no rea...

Rideau Report . . .
Hi everyone, Just thought I'd throw a quick report out there on my trip to the Rideau today. I launched out of Kars and found some spots in very shallow amongst the old bullrushes and some fallen wood. Caught lots of panfish, a few OOS bass (largemouth and rock) and my first couple of crappie, yippe...

Really healthy looking Lakers there RJ!
Please tell me you had to run a long ways, otherwise I'll be kicking myself for not getting my 16 footer down there, LOL.

Re: Problem with my gps
Did the other functions work okay? Could you read bottom, were you marking anything, etc? Also, did you cycle through the various menus? On my Humminbird, there is one screen where it shows which satellites are locked in and it will also give you your GPS coordinates. It doesn't take very long to lo...

Re: Solo boat launching?
I usually just leave my boat hooked up to the winch strap but I let out a bunch of slack so that the boat can float off the trailer. Backing up slowly , I watch for the boat to float free of the trailer. At that point I put the truck in park with the e-brake on, hop out, head back to the winch, pull...

Re: Lets get this Crappie thing started
Awesome, thanks Out4trout, that helps me allot!
I was going to try and target them with my fly rod, floating line and some smaller patterns. I don't have the boat ready yet, so I was hoping to find some spots on shore that I could take my son to for a few hours. He'll be using his Spidey rod, LOL.

Re: Lets get this Crappie thing started
Knowing literally jack squat about Crappie, would anyone be willing to share some info on where to look for these fish? I'm NOT looking for secret spots or anything like that, just more general info. Can you fish them from shore this time of year? Are they in the main flow of the Ottawa for example?...

Re: Motor support when trailering
I use a traditional transom saver and it's worked just fine, no issues. My motor is pretty light though (260 lbs.) so it really won't put as much stress on the unit as a larger outboard would.

Re: So you say there's no decent fish in White Lake????
I don't know the lake well enough to know the names of spots, but we launched at the museum and fished a bunch of spots probably up to 1/3rd of the way down the main lake from the launch. We focused mostly on the rock islands after getting through the narrows and shallow stuff in that big section ne...

White Lake . . .
Hit White Lake for a few hours this morning and managed a small Largemouth and two small Pike. I launched at the museum and just fished the near end as the wind was really blowing hard. I had my little guy with me so a long run or long day in those conditions was not in the cards. First time I had b...

Re: How to launch your boat by yourself
I loosen my winch strap but keep it clipped on. Slowly back in and I can feel the boat lift a bit. Get out, unhook the winch strap, and give her a bit of a shove top move it an extra foot or so. Get in the boat and drive her off. Getting back in is easy whether there is help or not. Back the traile...
