Re: Shirleys Bay reports

As I mentioned in a previous post, my best friend and fishing buddy Andres Garami died suddenly. We had fished the night before at Shirleys Bay and were planning a big trout trip later that week. Together with his wife, kids and sister, we have launched a Go Fund Me campaign to install a commemorati...

Re: American Eel - Rare Catch!

So you say it fought hard? What was it like trying to pick it up out of the hole? Did it wrap around your arm like a burbot? It was a weird "pulsing" fight. I thought it was a big pike, but the pulses were sharp, almost felt like it was getting off the hook every time with my rod bending ...

American Eel - Rare Catch!

I was fishing a tiny lake about 100km from the St. Lawrence when i hooked into a real fighter... was confused at first when I saw this down the hole! An American eel, now marked as Endangered in Ontario as they can't get through most of the dams that have been created. I reported this online and hav...

Re: Shirleys Bay reports

Some of you may wonder why I haven't been out to Shirleys since my last report. Well, it's been rough. I fished that night with my best friend Andres Garami. We had a good night, even though the fishing was slow. We chatted the next morning, laughing and carrying on as normal, talking about a big tr...

Re: Shirleys Bay reports

Hi guys - long time since I’ve posted here! My son is now 9 plus no Nepean raiders hockey right now so I’ve been able to get out. I met scarkner there 3/4 years ago. Yesterday we managed one small walleye. Out there with a Honda Odyssey mini van. We cheered loud for the walleye and when the sens sc...

Re: A Little Perch Action!!

In winter you can get panfish at any depth from 2 ft to 100ft. But please avoid pulling them up from deeper than around 30ft or they can die from barotrauma (not always, but enough of them, if your eating them then no biggie). Personally for Panfish I find Google satellite images are best. Look for ...

Re: First depot Lake

I assume you're referring to the Depot Lakes down by Verona ? .. Yes, the Depot Lakes near Verona. We have a hunting camp with land bordering on First Depot Lake, hence my interest in fishing it. Normally we are only there during hunting season (and therefore are focused on hunting). This year we h...

First depot Lake

I have an opportunity to fish first depot Lake this weekend. There's pretty much zero information online about it. No depth charts, no anglers Atlas entries, etc.. Can anyone share some information about structure, general good places to start, etc.? I know there's walleye and probably crappie in th...

Re: Shirleys Bay reports

Report back on how driving out went! Planning on doing so this weekend.. I’ve been out about 10 or so times this year and have been semi productive. Will be nice to drive out! Well - first off, I clearly jinxed myself by saying fishing was good this year... got out yesterday from around 4pm until 8...

Re: Shirleys Bay reports

I have been on Shirleys twice this year, first time landed 15 between three of us, all around sundown. Went out again for a mid-afternoon fish and the perch were INSANE in terms of numbers, but not biting very hard. Was fun to watch them on camera and a few did make it topside. Out of all the fish c...

Re: Ice-fishing for trout in Zone 15 Ottawa Valley

Muskrat is well frozen now and a favourite for lakers and rainbow smelt. But something is "off" this year as we have seen very few fish, i suspect that the major blue-green algae blooms this summer may have hurt the smelt populations (just guessing). Tatty Hill Road - It is usually navigab...
