Re: New to ice fishing

One thing to keep in mind is that no two lakes are the same. Some lakes, and rivers have currents that makes ice treacherous, and some small lakes freeze up early and are safe well after the larger lakes are no longer safe in the spring. It is best to talk to people at local baitshops to find out wh...

Worms vs Nymphs for hard water Rainbows?

Worms or Nymphs for Rainbows? I am planning a trip for some bows in a lake up near Calabogie. I have read that a micro jig tipped with a worm or Nymph works well for Rainbows in small bodies of water. I am wondering what the community prefers, and if any baitshop sells Nymphs in the Ottawa area?

Where can I get Auger blades sharpened

Hey! I am wondering where in the city I can get my manual Auger blades sharpened? They are pretty full, and last season was hell trying to drill holes in the ice!

Thanks in advanced!!

Dalhousie Lake Walleye

I went to Dalhousie Lake, at the bridge that spans the Mississippi river near Sylvania Lodge, for some walleye last weekend. I was with my cousin, and we were there from about 5pm until 10pm. In that time I caught two walleye around 9:30pm. Otherwise we were mainly catching small pike, and rock bass...

Re: Catch & Release may be too good...

This article is from a magazine, and hardly peer reviewed scientific work. It doesn't quote any studies, and it really all over the place in its claims. I would not take this article very seriously. Bass have indeed evolved, and continue to evolve in the same manner that other creatures have, to mai...

Re: Invasive Species

Interesting.... From various sources..... " In the Black and Caspian Seas, gobies generally inhabit the nearshore area, although they will migrate to deeper water (up to 60 meters [197 feet] depth) in winter." " After 142 days of starvation under simulated winter conditions, round go...

Re: Invasive Species

Will do.... Have there been any reports of Gobbies in the Ottawa? I catch them at will in the St. Lawrence but have not caught any up here. Interestingly, last spring I went to Sandbanks with the wife in late May. The ice had recently completely melted, and the beach was covered in dead gobbies and...

Re: Constance Lake

I don't know what I am doing wrong then! Every time I have gone, I have been skunked. Saw nothing on the Flasher, and never lost a minnow, and not even a single bump! Next time I do, I will try to go between 5-8 feet of water like suggested.
