Great Summer weather and walleye bite for ORWL Event 5

Mississippi Lake - On July 14th 2010 the ORWL held their 5th event of the season on their home lake. The weather was perfect and the fishing was solid all day with a pitching jig bite in the morning and a trolling crawler harnesses in the mid afternoon. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs...

I believe it is based on year classes and the MNR will do studies to see how much the walleye grow each year.

A good population of 12 to 18" walleye is a good thing for the future of the fishery.

It is a great fishery that the MNR have worked hard on returning to good numbers. I am sure the ministry already knows the answer and are trying to protect the juvenile walleye by setting the size limit they presently have. Sounds like the population was very low in that lake and they needed to prot...

Mattagami Report

Back from Mattagami and we managed to weigh in a limit of almost 11 pounds day one to place us in 27th place out of 126 teams. The limit for the tournament is 2 walleye over 18 inches and 4 under 18 inches. It was very difficult to find walleye under 18 inches in this body of water, but during pract...

Thanks for all the kudos...Gord and I left Monday morning to head up north near Timmins to fish another tourney and we have very limited internet. So far the pre-fish has been pretty good but the water is down over 5 feet from last year so it is like a whole new lake.

I would not go out on a new lake and just start casting. If it is a lake you have never fished the best approach would be a bottom bouncer and spinner, as this will allow you to cover water and discover all the weed-lines, pockets, humps, bottom composition changes (sand, rock, mud) and any structur...

I am not sure how big the gar are that is mentioned in the video, but the schools are very obvious on the screen. After spending a season on the water with Lowrance StructureScan I am not convinced the frequency and beam used in side scan will allow you to see individual fish in the 1 to 2 foot size...

25km winds out of the south on Saturday so pack the drift socks if you plan on jigging or working weed-lines. I will be teaching with Gord at our spring walleye school and if the winds hold, we will be showing some of the tricks involved in boat control. :) Have a good weekend, be safe and see you a...

May be able to squeak this one in if I can get back in time from another tourney.
Never fished these waters so it would be fun to go exploring.

I have two tips to share from my own experience and mistakes I made along the way, start off using your real name on the INTERNET, work hard, be honest, market yourself and your fishing image. Just be yourself and if you have what it takes international companies will notice your name when it comes ...

You want to get FUGAWI Marine ENC with the Navionics option(Navionics Card Reader). This software is great for pre-planning, logging waypoints and also after you get off the water you can review all your trails etc. It is compatible with Hummindird and I have been using it for many years with my Low...

I use FUGAWI software as my fishing log and waypoint management. Every time out on a lake I waypoint mark technique, date, weather and what was working. At the end of the day I log all my GPS tracks and waypoint details with additional speed, surface temp colours etc. I even load pictures that are s...

I guess it is time for a Lowrance School, the only issue I have is getting a location and covering the costs. If I put together a school that had a 4 hour morning session of Introduction to Sonar/GPS followed by an advanced 4 Hour Sonar/GPS interpretation class, how many would be interested? I will ...
