Try launching at Strathcona Park, you can fish upstream from there all the way to Billings Bridge/Carleton University area. No boat traffic, no water skiers, and no seadoos.

Here is a link to a very basic map of Newboro. It is part of the map project here on Fish-Hawk. It will give you a starting point of information. Especially about the sanctuaries.

Are you boating up or looking for a place to launch as well? There is a marina with a launch on the Gatineau/Hull side (not sure where it is, you can probably google it). I think you can dock at the locks (don't quote me on that) at the base of the Chateau Laurier/Parliament Hill. You can't go much ...

If they strictly enforce that, its going to be one brutal summer for people just floating around. Play it safe, don't paddle, just float!

Did anybody see that interview with the MNR guy? Apparently they can fine you the full extent of the law even if your caught floating around on an inflatable mattress in front of a swimming beach without the operators card! Funny the MNR guy said that as on the Transport Canada website: http://www....

In a nut shell, the Ottawa River falls under the category of a border water. Therefore, your provincial license is valid no matter if you are fishing from shore or from a boat. What does matter, is the possession limits, season dates and other fishing regulations of the provincial side of the river ...

Sounds more to me that his reaction is that of a person who would have stolen some of your stuff. I think your reaction was normal, lucky he didn't have to swim to shore.

You probably won't find either one in the fish markets here in Ottawa. You can catch shad in the Ottawa, but you have to go downstream to below the Carrillon Dam. Gaspereaux don't come this far to spawn, and any of the maritime fisherman who harvest them, usually export them to the Caribbean islands...

Just remember, if you do catch an eel, they are now considered a protected species.
