Interesting read on CBC

Most of Newfoundland is fly only, at least for salmon and most trout streams. Pretty sure that there are lakes and possibly some streams where you can use lures and such. However you will see most if not all depending on the area are posted as fly only. So it is a good idea to practice your fly fish...

I am assuming if you are fishing a small lake you are fishing out of a small boat. So downriggers and all that business, forget it. we were fishing in the Otter Lk. Que. area this past weekend. All the lake trout we caught were in 35 to 50' down 15 to 20' Some off lead core a some off the downrigger.
