Most of Newfoundland is fly only, at least for salmon and most trout streams. Pretty sure that there are lakes and possibly some streams where you can use lures and such. However you will see most if not all depending on the area are posted as fly only. So it is a good idea to practice your fly fish...

I am assuming if you are fishing a small lake you are fishing out of a small boat. So downriggers and all that business, forget it. In the small lakes I use lead core all the time, however I have recently really started to like and have success with the fly rod using a full sink line w/ big streamer...

The only fishing I think worth watching is Mark Kurpa (I think thats how it's spelled)Hooked.
He's not selling tackle or giving guided tours of lodges. Most of these fishing shows are nothing more than 30 min. commercials.

we were fishing in the Otter Lk. Que. area this past weekend. All the lake trout we caught were in 35 to 50' down 15 to 20' Some off lead core a some off the downrigger.

You know in principal I can go along with the boater’s safety card or whatever it is they call it. I finally broke down and got mine. Hey Thanks for all the responses. However I took a drive around today as well as judging from the responses. I think the canoe would be in order. It's a photography project on the Jock she is doing.
