Re: Last Fishing Outing Of the Year - What to target?

Reboot: it's generally more difficult to catch fish in this area when the water starts to gets cold. They are feeding but the summer techniques like cranking and using spinners don't produce as well, at least in my experience. The fish start to slow down so a slower presentation is called for. Come ...

Re: Frustrated at Silver Lake

I have only fished for lakers there once, last spring after ice out. Was tough even then (supposed to be easier after ice out). That lake gets hit hard b/c it's easy to access. Try jigging for them after you mark them. White jig, white Mister Twister grub or a plastic paddletail minnow. Also doesn't...

Re: Just the kids

Great pictures and memories! I have a two year old son and a newborn daughter, can't wait to go fishing with them. I took the two year old out a couple times this summer (with Mom in tow), he loved it. This is why fishing has overtaken golf for me as my number one recreational pursuit - just way eas...

Re: Lake Trout fishing, need advice

Banjo's points are good, especially about their depth and checking the regs. Some year round lake trout lakes are out there though, particularly in North Frontenac, so check the zone regs under "Additional Opportunities" or something like that. I fish for lakers in the spring and summer, n...

Re: Can't figure out the Fall pattern!

I fished Mississippi River out of Appleton yesterday. Started at around 1 pm and it was pretty quiet, but around 4 pm it got crazy. The smallies and largies were jumping into the boat, lost track of how many we got. They were good ones too, lots of 3-4 lb'ers. We were hauling them in using jerkbaits...

Re: How many lures do you lose? Honestly...

I usually lose one or two lures a trip (on a day long, 6-8 hour day). By "lure" I mean a crankbait, a spinnerbait or a frog. This doesn't include jigs, which I usually lose a few of each outing. Like someone said above, I don't count them because they're meant to be fished in a way that ri...

Re: possible open seat Friday eve

AlmonteFisher: you said you're heading out to a local river. Mississippi? I'm going out on it tonight as well. Launching from Appleton and will be between there and the Almonte Fair launch. If you're on that stretch keep an eye out for two dudes in a red and white Springbok. Would be cool to meet a ...

Re: Advice please

I think it is as simple as that Cool. Just set up shop and camp. At least that is what I had done a few times and was never questioned or stopped to see if I had a permit or anything. maybe someone else can chime in on the Ottawa thing. I checked the Crown Land Atlas: http://www.giscoeapp.lrc.gov.o...

Re: Do you EAT Bass? Just curious...

I personally don't eat bass but don't see the harm if someone keeps a few smaller ones (less than 3 lbs) for the table. The big pigs should be let go, for conservation reasons. There's no slot limit for bass of course but those anglers rightly concerned with conservation should self-impose one for t...

Re: Advice please

The North Frontenac website has a lot of lakes with boat-in sites. I believe they're the same outfit who manage Crotch Lake reservations. I camped/fished at Long Schooner (as well as the connected lake, Round Schooner) in early June. No walleye there though, just bass, pike and laker (year round sea...

Re: lac poisson blanc

No problem, glad to help. Earlier this summer I used the web app to scout a new lake before my first visit and it proved invaluable. I saw the size of Poisson Blanc on the map, wow is it a big lake! You could fish it for years and not know it well. I might have to go check it in the next week or two...

Re: lac poisson blanc

PS - the app helpfully labels areas where you may find certain species. I noticed several spots for Poisson Blanc with "lake trout" on them.

I've never fished that lake. Have you tried Navionics web app? Looks like they have contours for Lac Poisson Blanc. Here's the link:

Re: New PBs at Lac Tucker

Nice work and congrats on your first pike! I fished that very same lake last August and was almost skunked until I decided to cast a jitterbug just before dusk. I quickly landed a big smallmouth with it, around the size you have there. It's not a bad little lake, is it? :D

Re: Deka AGM

I can't speak to the battery as I haven't used it. However, I do have the exact same trolling motor for my 12 foot tin can boat. I have been using it on a Costco (Kirkland) 27 series deep cycle rated for 115 amp hours. Cost me $89 plus tax. I never drain the battery to less than 25% charge. I have u...
