Questions about St. Lawrence River
Hi all, I do most of my fishing on the Rideau, but will be spending some time on the St. Lawrence next week hoping to target smallmouth and I had a couple of questions. 1) I'm planning on exploring some back bays in my canoe, or staying close to shoreline in the main river if the winds are low. Will...

Re: All of you into kayak fishing or want to....
Choose a rod that's long enough to pass the tip around the front of your boat. I fish from a 13' kayak, and I like a 7' rod, but can definitely get away with 6'6. Depends on your kayak though. Have fun!Steve Mandanda wrote:What do you do if the fish swings around to another side of the kayak?

Re: Procedure with OOS fish
Mentioned previously that MNR have shown up after a picture was posted to the internet. How do they determine when the fish was caught, couldn't defence always be that it was years past? Or is it usually that the poster mentioned the date of catch in post? EXIF data. When you take a picture with a ...

Re: Procedure with OOS fish
Check out the search feature, this topic comes up every year and has been discussed at length. Bottom line about pictures is it's going to depend on officer discretion if you got caught. I know someone who had conservation officers show up at his house with some pretty serious fines and seizures bei...

I met Gunther last year at a KAAO meeting, what an inspirational and funny guy. If you have a chance, I highly recommend checking this doc out.

Like RJ said, if that's the issue then why is it ok for part of the year?Out4trout wrote:Dead bait can still transmit disease, eg VHS... unless the dead bait is properly preserved / sterilized with salt etc

Re: DIY fishing Cuba- Part 2 of 3 Kayak fishing
Very cool report, and some great photos. I do most of my fishing from a kayak, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to get me out there in the swells in an inflatable! Thanks for sharing.

Re: Fishing show in Ottawa?
That's a good point Maverick, the amount of product information available online now compared to even 10 or 15 years ago has probably reduced the demand for shows like this.

Re: best Lures?
As someone who only started fishing regularly about 3 years ago, the best advice I could give you is to take a few techniques and become proficient at them. I was overwhelmed my first year, and always switching lures convinced I was throwing the "wrong one". Remember that location is one o...

Re: Honouring my father at Megabucks
Mav,
I've never met you, and I unfortunately didn't have the pleasure of ever meeting your father, but it's clear from the outpouring of support that both of you have been great contributors to this site, and to the fishing community in general. For that I thank you. Take care.

Wow, everything looks incredible. And your meat processing room looks absolutely pristine. Sometimes these "other" posts on FH are my favourite, something outside the norm. Thanks for sharing.

NOT IMPRESSED. Staff not very knowledgeable in fishing dept Are you surprised? It's the same no matter what industry we're talking here. I used to work for a mom and pop hardware and lumber store when Home Depots starting popping up everywhere. The owner always said, "I may not be able to matc...
