Life Jacket Recommendations

Hi all Any solid recommendations out there for good quality life jackets? I occasionally rent boats and to make my wife feel better, I want to get a good quality life jacket for my outings. I'm 6'4 220lbs so most stock life jackets that come with the rental boat do not fit well. Anything that stands...

Awesome top water video

Just saw this link on the Paddletales face book page. Great video. (I have my doubts about whether this bass is 9lbs but a great hit nonetheless)

Re: When will all melt??????

I have a feeling even on Lake Ontario, a majority of the ice won't be out until late April. For the back lakes, it might be pushing into the first week of May.

2 years ago I got a sunburn in March. This year I'm still wearing sorrels and my heavy winter jacket.

Re: Manotick Mill

My best advice would be to get a good pair of waders and start exploring. When I first moved to Ottawa I had no idea where to go and through trial and error, I've managed to find some amazing spots by wading. It will allow you to get away from the heavily pressured spots around the mill and work a l...

Picked up an NRX 893 at Paddletales a few weeks back and pairing it with a metanium. Can't wait to bust out this combo for bass opener.

Going to be actively throwing more jigs this season.

Re: BUZZBAITS

It's like anything, you have to know the body of water and find areas that are suited to the lure. That being said, I had a friend who had great luck throwing them on Chemong / Buck horn for large mouth around pads and grass mats. Not much different in principle to something like a jitter bug. I hav...

Re: Ottawa Boat show

If I could be a Paddletales, that is where I would spend my money.

I was at the Toronto show a few weeks back and it was a total bust.

Re: Toronto Sportsmen Show

My expectations are low because I went a few years ago and there was a very limited number of vendors with few deals to speak of. I didnt think I would go back but now that I"m in the market for a boat, it will probably be worth a gander. I will keep my eye open for the Paddle Tales event. Migh...

Toronto Sportsmen Show

I work in Toronto so I have the opportunity to go this year although my expectations are low. Anyone else going this year? I'm mostly going to look at the boats for an upcoming purchase and wander through the tackle vendors. I imagine it is a bit of a stretch for most people but I was curious if any...

Re: Fishing from Shore / Access Points to the water

This is a great list. Wish I had seen something like this when I first moved to Ottawa.

I figured out most spots by trial and error!

Re: Advice on Flipping Stick

Winter is a dangerous time for me in terms of spending. By time February rolls around, I'm itching to buy something new.

All the new fishing shows and exhibitions don't help either.

I'll definitely report back on the final decision. Thanks everyone. Great insight from the group!

Re: Advice on Flipping Stick

Wow, thanks for the input. A lot of Dobyns recommendations.

I'll check out the website and hopefully handle a few in the near future.

My budget is flexible so I can go up or down beyond the $325 that the mossy back is.

Advice on Flipping Stick

Hi everyone Every year I try to actively pursue one new technique and this year is to do more flipping. As a belated Christmas present to myself I'm going to be getting a flipping stick. I've done a ton of reading and have done flipping before but want to get better equipment. What are everyone's th...

Re: Reel Question.

Fishing Freak,
Whatever you do, I would wait a few weeks until all the fishing exhibitions start.

Toronto Sportsmen Show, Spring Fishing & Boat Show, Ottawa show etc.

All the shops typically have deals during this time and if nothing else, you can save on tax.

Re: Reel Question.

I would put in a bit more to your budget and get one of the new Chronarch Ci4. I played with one at Sail a few weeks back and they have a nice feel. I posted in a thread on here as well and they have received awesome feedback. I would avoid the Caenan. With bait casters, you get what you pay for and...
