Re: Can I go down to one battery
You might want to consider the location of battery 1 relative to the anchor motor. If it is 14', you'll be looking at the cost of running 28' of heavy wire if you eliminate battery 2. Proper marine grade wire fitted with appropriate ends might cost more than the second battery.

Re: Plugging some holes
Hardly seems worth the trouble. But, if you must, fabricate an aluminum plate and pop rivet in place.

Re: Line for Son’s Spinning reel?
May as well start with a braid. It's tough, will last several seasons, no problems with twisting. you can cast it a mile. Power Pro 15 - 20 lbs. Some might suggest a flourocarbon leader but that is more advanced.

Re: Rideau River Walleye
Nice walleye. You must be on the Long Reach. There's no walleye in the Kilmarnock-Merrickville section.

You might be getting bitten off. Is the line end curled or straight? Straight indicates a bite-off.

Re: Canal Walleye..
Who would have thought that there would be walleye in the canal? Where would these fish overwinter? Are they a resident population, or just coming through the locks with the boat traffic?

Geez! That's right across from our cottage. My wife's gonna freak when she sees this. We've had difficulty producing any real numbers for the last three weeks. Now we have a better idea where to look. Thanx, Justin.

That's a mighty good fish by anybody's standards. I'm going to stick my neck out here and guess you might be holding up your PB largemouth bass. Either way, congrats are in order.
