Newish to archery
I recently got my hunting license and I'm interested in using a recurve bow to hunt small game this fall, mainly Grouse but i'm also interested in trying rabbit. I'm leaning toward buying the Fleetwood 62" Sage Takedown Bow with a RH 45 lb draw as it is a relatively inexpensive bow with great r...

Re: Ticks
I picked up a deer tick in the Fall at Long Island locks last year. These are perhaps the most likely to carry lyme disease. Unfortunately, they're also extremely small, about the size of a sesame seed. So as you can imagine they can go undetected quite easily. Here's a link that goes beyond the bas...

Re: Quick question - Pike
Fluro is also my go to when leaders a re required. I like to use at least 25lb fluro for pike, but, have had them cut through 40lb when they inhale the bait. I stay away from any type of steel leader for two simple reasons. 1. steel can cut fish if they decide to roll and 2. steel leaders tend to ki...

Re: Northern pike questions
If you want pike Constance lake will certainly provide them. They won't be monsters but there should be good numbers. Either a spoon, spinner bait or jerk bait should get the job done. In cold water I prefer jerk bait as you can slow the retrieve down to a standstill. If you want to avoid OOS bass y...

Re: Skunked by crappie again!
I managed about 6 eaters size out of the Kars area a few weeks back. The crappie I did see were hanging very tight to wood and in amongst 10,000 pumpkinseed and bluegill. If you have a chance get out tomorrow. Todays and tomorrows weather should get them back into the shallows with numbers.

Re: Fish Tagging
I would suggest contacting the Ministry about the legalities. I have no clue if you're allowed but would guess its illegal for the public to randomly tag fish.

Use the link on this page to get to the atlas. It's a very useful tool when looking to play on crown land. In my experience finding a suitable site can be time consuming as people tend to set up tents for the summer on the prime spots.

Re: Catfishing in the ottawa river
You should have no problem catching channel cats at either location. This time of year the water is cold and the bite is usually slow. Look for warmer shallower water would be a good start. I fished cats Saturday night in between Shirelys Bay and Britania from 830 pm to 10:30 pm. We managed to land ...

Jockvale river
Does anyone know if there is a fishable population of Crappie in the Jock? The fact that it connects to the Rideau would lead me to believe there's is at least some in there. Anyone every caught numbers of slabs from it?

Re: Silver Lake
The deep end of Loughborough is likely open now. The weather is much warmer and usually has open water rather early. It never really freezes that thick to begin with. However, I haven't been up there so I can't say for sure.

Re: walleye tactics
The water is cold so you'd want to keep your presentation slow in order to leave your bait in the strike zone for as long as possible. I'd go with a suspending jerk bait or plastics to achieve that. I think your biggest problem may be finding area's that are holding fish. Walleye will most likely be...

Re: For you hight teck stuff. Cool new unit
I've had experience with deeper and it works fine in shallow water with no flashers around. However, it is useless at any sort of depth. If anyone is using a flasher in your vicinity the interference is just overwhelming. Good for panfish and shallow water applications. Don't expect to jig lakers wi...

Re: Shirley's bay 2016
In my experience that type of bite is mud puppies. they seem to love chewing on minnows close to the bottom. Also had some annoying little stuff that kept setting off my tip-ups through the night, I would often feel it nibbling lightly (perch?).
