Collapsible or folding net

I'm looking for a good quality collapsible or foldable net for handling big fish like musky or pike. I drive a small car and spend 90% of my time fishing from shore so there's a lot of walking through brush and less than favorable conditions. While I've seen some options online I'd like to able take...

Re: Best pike lures?

How long was the leader avid? I've had pike hit my bobber and very quickly inhale the bait and roll on it, so when I set the hook my mainline braid was breaking off on his gill covers. Longer leader solves this problem when still fishing, I like to use at least 24inch sometimes 36 if its a big bait...

Re: Best pike lures?

I use a 25 lb. test Seguar flurocarbon as a leader and so far, haven't had any pike bite through it. And yes, have had the pike jump right out of the water going for a minnow under a float. A little something to think about: I was using 40lb seguar fluro a few weeks back had a pike inhale my lure t...

Re: OOS Fish and Pictures

I'm a 27 year old from Ottawa who has been known to make the occasional trip to the market. There's quite a healthy cougar population in that area

Re: OOS Fish and Pictures

Its been 26 years since I've seen someone identify themselves as a conservation officer. That's because they are the most rare species on the planet. Or maybe it's because they're surfing the web looking for pictures of OOS fish ;) Wow, that's quite awhile. I actually meet the same CO twice in one ...

Re: What type of fish is this?

They like to school up so where you found that you'll likely find more. And as someone else has pointed out you're also likely to find some large toothy predators near by as well.

Re: Long nosed gar bait

When we go for gar at night our preference is live minnows that have been purchased and legal for use in Ontario. If not we will go and buy frozen if we cannot make it to a bait store in time. We go through a lot of live OR dead minnows. Walleye and channel cats also feed during prime nightime gar ...

Long nosed gar bait

I'm looking for tips on what sort of dead bait to use. typically I'd use 3-6" creek chub I catch out of a stream. However I don't have the time to get them and I'd like to get out Friday night for some gar. Anyone ever tried smelt or sardines? Just for clarification this is for bobber fishing.

Re: shore fishing pics

Ive had a lot of luck throwing jerk baits and working them really slow, more so with a certain color pattern but that's my little secret . Also had some decent action on live minnows. The water is still fairly cool in most spots so ive found the slower you go the better the bite.

Re: Shimano Cardiff vs. Abu C3/C4...suggestions

I had a Cardiff 400a for my musky reel and I loved it. With that said it broke within a few months of purchasing it so rather than change manufacturers entirely I upgraded to the Calcutta B. Its a bit more expensive but a much better quality reel IMO. So if you like the Cardiff round reel style I su...

Re: Is Castor river all run off?

I've ate plenty of fish from the Castor and have no ill effects to show for it. I believe the Castor is spring fed with a lot of run off in the spring.

I've done the same thing except I didn't get the self cleaning hole part. I can't say for sure but an air pocket would be my best guess as well.
