Hard to suggest anything without seeing or at least knowing the diameter of the drain hole, like suggested above you might have to inlarge it a bit and install a new drain fitting, clean the area real good and use 3M 5200 marine adhesive around the new fitting and screw holes, something like this: h...

There is a very very small hole in front of the lower unit, try blowing it with some air, if that doesn't work, get a single strand from downrigger cable of brake cable and try that, you'll know when it clears because some water and gunk will come out. Downeast Salties will take the punishment but they are rough on the reels/rods, I use RAM 114B for large dipsys, they are plenty strong but a little hard to get the rod out under pressure(salmon fishing), not a big problem and you can't beat the price IMO. http://www.custommounts.com/RAM_Fishing_Rod...
