Re: Trout rivers near Arnprior?

There used to be trout when my grandpa was young, so that would have been the late 30s, early 40s in the Madawaska River (Upper). I am not sure if there are any trout left in there though, with all the dams the water slows down, warms up and silts up. In SW Ontario where my other grandpa grew up, hi...

Re: Kapuskasing bound!

My grandpa lived just west of Moonbeam, I spent a lot of time up there fishing. If you want bigger fish you will end up getting less, there can be big fish caught in Remi Lake North of Moonbeam as well as the Opisatika complex west of town. If you are fishing from shore pretty much anywhere that the...

Re: Silent Invaders / Invasive Species

We could add bass and perch to this list, if you fish trout lakes that is.
Northern Pike as well in some places.

Re: Ashby Lake Report

The trout in there are a weird strain, I have only seen a couple green lakers in that lake chain. The closing of the winter season for lake trout has helped a lot in those lakes, it was too easy to get off the main snowmobile trail and access them. Now there is an island on Barker that is going up w...

Re: May 24 fishing, looking for cottage rental advice

Well we are going to be headed up to Haliburton, Maple Lake.

We found a cottage rental there that will allow 12 people :), so we are good to go.

Thanks for the input guys, I hope there is some fishing but at worst there is a lot of room for 12 of us to enjoy for 3 nights.

Re: $100 guided trip - Little Quinte

Is it just me or are those 'eyes' coming out of the Ottawa River the illest looking fish you've ever seen? that waterway is a 'urnal' at best, I wouldn't eat anything from it has anyone seen any pollution reports There is a pollution report, it is called the Guide to Eating Ontario Sport Fish. This...

Re: Ice Fishing Help - For Small Fish

We did fish it last year with worms too and had no luck.

Me thinks that an underwater camera and flasher would be key in there, the camera with fish there would entertain your kids for sure.

I still cannot believe how intently your daughter was watching me clean the lakers.

Re: May 24 fishing, looking for cottage rental advice

Tumblehome Lodge looks nice, no pets but that may be possible anyway (I don't have a dog yet but 2 other couples do, I would be ok if no dogs to worry about for a weekend).

Thanks guys

Re: May 24 fishing, looking for cottage rental advice

Ha ha ha, I am looking for the getaway, it is my birthday weekend so they get to deal with my type of place :).

I was actually thinking a cottage further north with less people, like Haliburton area, nobody else is dumb enough to go up there on 24, too cold for them. :)

May 24 fishing, looking for cottage rental advice

I turn 30 this year and the fiancee wants to get some friends together and go to a cottage for the 24 weekend to celebrate. I told her that there must be fish in the lake with an open season and a decent boat for rent :). Does anyone know of a spot in Ontario that they would recommend, I am looking ...

Any luck on Shirleys Bay yet?

I have been in Israel for 2 weeks and 3 weekends, I am planning to go out to the bay after work today for some walleye, anyone had any luck out there yet? I remember from last year that they start to come out there at certain parts of the winter, just trying to gauge how the run is.

Thanks

Elevation from Bottom and Sinker Weight Shirleys Bay

Well I will finally be getting out to Shirleys Bay tomorrow evening and I was curious with the current out there what weight people use and what distance from the bottom works best out there. I have glow in the dark jig heads and I will be trying for ling on bottom after dark, but last time we were ...
