Re: Brook trout fishing
Hey, Sportsman570, here are some notes on my experience with stocked brook trout fishing in the Ottawa area (i.e., within about a 100km drive of Ottawa) in Ontario: - The trout are stocked for the most part as yearlings, about ¼ to ½ lbs in size, in June or July - You can easily catch them from Sept...

Re: Lake Opeongo August Lake Trout Help - Tips and Suggestio
Thanks for posting a follow up and kudos for the successful fishing! Could you please share the lure(s) used to catch the trout, as well as what depth they were caught at, if you don't mind? I caught my limit of Park lake trout back in June on EGB spoons at a (estimated) depth of between 40-50 feet ...

Re: Lake Opeongo August Lake Trout Help - Tips and Suggestio
Sorry, I don't have any experience using a Bondy Bait or Tail Dancer. It would be good to have some sort of lure that can go down 40-50 feet, imo.

Re: Lake Opeongo August Lake Trout Help - Tips and Suggestio
I've fished several lakes in the Park (and near it) for lake trout over the years, but never in Lake Opeongo. For those other lakes, at this time of year, most of the lake trout that I've caught was done by trolling EGB spoons in sizes 3, 3B, 4 and 6 on leadcore line, letting out between 4 to 6 colo...

Since I've never been to that neck of the woods before I don't have any useful info. to share, but I hope you have a great trip and look forward to anything that you might post about it.

Re: Canal bassin’
The section north of the 417 bridge is tough this summer: the rain as well as construction has made the water cloudy and algae-infested in certain parts, but I’ve been able to catch some nice LMB from weed lines and overhangs in the clearer areas. Finesse plastics are definitely the way to go here. ...

Re: Rideau River Pickrel
Have not fished from a boat on the river, but have caught many fishing from shore in areas between Manotick and Carleton U. where fast/shallow water meets slow/deep water. Favourite lures are 1/8 oz. round jig heads and 2 inch Power Grubs when using light tackle as well as 1/4 oz. round jig heads an...

Re: Algonquin Park lake trout report
Thanks zippyfx and smitty55. I was running 5 colours of leadcore and my partner was running 6, which resulted in each of us catching 2 trout as well as getting several strikes. Unfortunately I don't know for sure exactly how deep our lures were being trolled at; I don't even know what kind of leadco...

Algonquin Park lake trout report
A fishing partner and I visited a small Park lake this past Saturday, reached by a 4.5 km cart trail from an access road, with parking for 4-5 vehicles at the trailhead (there was no one else parked there that day). 150+ lbs of Sportspal, cart, and gear. https://i.postimg.cc/Hk4Prj55/Spring-Park1.jp...

Re: It's walleye time!
Very nice - there's got to be a sense of satisfaction when you get a nice catch using something that you've built yourself. The walleye fishing has been pretty good on the Rideau River since the opener, as well.

Re: no crappies yet
Tried fishing under and around some of the bridges on the downtown stretch of the Rideau Canal, which are usually a sure thing for crappie this time of year, but only caught little perch. Water was dirty and full of leaves, tree buds, cut grass, etc.

Calabogie spring trout report
As a follow up to my fall 2018 report, I revisited some Calabogie area lakes last weekend to see if any of their 2018 stocked trout made it through the ice fishing season. The access road had some washouts, which wouldn’t be a problem for 4X4s or ATVs, but were a bit much for my Volkswagen Golf. htt...
