No you should be fine, its not the ideal set up for that swimbait but it won't damage the rod.

Lets hope they can stop them from entering the GL because they do pose a real danger to boaters. As for the effect on the fishery I am not convinced it will be the tragedy everyone is making it out to be. I was on simcoe in the summer and was using crawfish crank bait looking for the giant smallies and hit nothing but perch, they love them and simcoe has tonnes of crawfish

Shore fishing is tough but it can be successful if you find some drop offs. Doesnt have to be huge even a 10-15 drop will do. If you had a boat you would drag tubes in these areas as you drift, the same technique can be used from shore. Cast out and let the tube find bottom then very very slowly jig...
