Tried ice fishing this weekend for the first time and had a blast. Since it was not planned I used the "Gulp! Alive! bait" I had wishing I had live minnows. Still had a couple of bites though... Where can I get live minnows in Ottawa? I live in the west end.
Thanks.

Muskrat Lake
I have been asked to go up to Muskrat Lake (next to Cobden) this weekend. This will be my first time ice fishing. I am really excited. Does anyone know the ice conditions there……other than hard and cold……? Is there a place close by where I can buy minnows?
Thanks

Lure too heavy to use?
Newbie question ..... I have a Shimano Graphite spinning rod with a lure rating of ¼ to ¾ oz and a line rating of 8-17 pounds. Right now the rod is spooled up with a 10 pound monofilament. My boy gave me a Spro Swimbait that weighs 7/8 oz for Christmas. Will this lure damage this rod if used?

Leaders for Pike (ice fishing)
This summer I discovered fishing. Damn, I wish this happened decades ago. I cannot go cold turkey until the Spring so I have decided that I will be going ice fishing with a couple of buddies. Won't be using a hut. Apparently it will be for pike. We are not after the monsters... I am wondering what t...

What is needed under a floatation suit to keep warm…
I am the person who had a recent thread asking for opinions about floatation suit brand models. After trying on ones at Canadian Tire and Le Baron’s I ended up with a Mustang Integrity Floatation Suit. Best fit for me. I was amazed how hot it got in it after it was fully zipped up. I assume that a...

If I was the manufacturer, I'd never put suspenders in them....it's only an invitation for people to wear them improperly and it's a recipe for possible disaster. Excellent point Markus, something I had not thought about....till now... Planning on trying on both to see which one is more comfortable...

Helly Hansen Alpha One Piece Suit vs Mustang Integrity Suit
I want to get a floatation suit this year. I do not use a hut when ice fishing so I have decided on a one piece suit. I am after one that is warm (don’t want tons of layering), well built, reliable. Right now I am looking at the Helly Hansen Alpha One Piece Suit and the Mustang Integrity Suit HX. ...

Ice Fishing Line Recommendation
I am planning on joining some friends this winter at ice fishing derbies (Eastern Ontario). Have never ice fished before. Just bought a rod (St Croix Legend), a reel (Abu Cardinal 300) and Power Pro Ice 15 pound line. The salesman suggested Power Pro Ice because it was super strong, very thin, had n...
