I lived there for 23 years and fished without problems - its not too bad really. In practice there are a fair amount of places to fish (course fish anyway, there is virtually no game fishing) Its more restrictive than Canadian laws but it has to be - the UK has twice as many people as Canada in a la...

hit up my two favourite spots, one on the rideau river, the other on the canal - no bass but caught a huge bluegill and something REALLY ugly - it was about 10 inches long, VERY wide head/mouth that tapered towards a narrow tail and had crazy barbels on its mouth. I am thinking it was a catfish?? If...

Thanks, yeah any big ones will always go straight back asap! I wasn't sure what a good minimum/maximum size was, I will aim for around the 2lb mark.

I definitely will be back to that spot with my camera!

Don't forget your camera! Or ruler. Or scales.

I was fishing in the Rideau Canal right in downtown Ottawa this evening off the shore, just lost a fish of about 1lb (still not used to these barbless hooks!) when I hooked into a bass - I instantly realised that it was really really big - after a couple of minutes struggle I got a couple who were p...

Rideau Falls Advice

I have been twice now to Rideau Falls, for a total of about 6-8 hours and haven't even had a nibble, so I am wondering where I am going wrong? I fish from the bit of rocky shore to the right of the falls that you get to via the tiny little road. I have tried worms, crankbait, spinners and tubes but ...

Anyone else find it tough fishing today?

Had the day off work, haven't caught anything the last 3 times I have been fishing so decided to try to catch something to eat tonight (ideally a 1lb bass) so started off at all my usual spots on the Rideau River at about 2ish, 3 hours later in desperation after ZERO bites I biked down to Rideau Fal...

Rideau River/Canal bass

Has anyone noticed that the bass from the canal fight a lot less than the ones from the river? I caught a few today from the canal near 5th and then one from Dows lake, and they came in with barely a struggle, while the ones I get from the Rideau River fight like stink.

Is there a reason for this?

Decent collapsible rods?

Well I just left my 7ft 2 piece ugly stick behind at a river, and its gone. Doh. So now I am going to get a new rod and was wondering - are there any fairly decent rods that fold down small enough to fit in a rucksack? Under about 50-60 bucks? I would mainly use it for worming and surface frogs Than...

Thanks John! (Seabass81)

John said he had a free spot in his boat today, so I jumped at the chance! Having only recently moved to Ottawa, my personal best bass was a 9inch largemouth caught off the banks of the rideau, as you can see we smashed that! After speeding into a hailstorm, then a rainstorm, we spent some time near...

Never gone for carp here but in England I used pretty much exclusively bread on light float tackle.

Update - fished the rideau a few more times, caught a few bass around 6 - 9inches and then today hooked a MONSTER, it looked around 2 foot long to me, though it was almost certainly less. Anyway I wasn't able to tell what type it was, since the line snapped when I tried to pull it closer to net it.....
