We keep our minnows alive for weeks by putting them in a minnow-trap (homemade) and sticking it down one of our holes in hut. Saves a lot of $$.

Sounds like good fun. It has been ~20 years since I tried my luck for whitefish.

Wow! I never heard of or seen a mudpuppy that size before! Can't wait to see the photo. I have only caught them under 15" on the Ottawa River.

You need to be versatile if they aren't biting the same old lure. Are you jigging with live bait (worms, leeches, minnows?) or plastics? Try mixing it up. Fish will probably be a bit deeper this time of year. Fish during low light periods, best in the early morning. You set-up sounds good, just a matter of finding the fish. Have you tried this set up behind a bottom bouncer? Also, fish any inlets or woody areas with spoons, spinners, jigs, etc.
