Re: Atlantic Salmon Fishing Gear

Finally (sorry for being so long-winded), my research has uncovered an Orvis outlet store in Lake George, NY. I was wondering if anyone had visited this store, and if so, is it worth the trip? If you are looking for a deal at the Orvis outlet store in Lake George, N.Y., go ahead. I have never been ...

Thank you for your post gwright. I think that I would prefer to purchase an amadou dryer. The price over Samadou is small and so why not get the “real” thing. I am in no rush since there are less than 2 weeks of fishing left. Also, I have not yet tied any CDC flies. And, it is more important to ...

While looking on the web, I came across the following: “First squeeze all the water out of the fly with a tanned deerskin patch, chamois, amadou, samadou, or other dry absorbent material.” My reaction was – “then I have a lot of it. I can use Sham WOW that I bought some months ago”. So, th...

Help needed in finding a fly fishing item to buy

I need help in locating a fly fishing item to buy. I am trying to find a place where I can buy the “real” amadou or the artificial amadou (man made) – used to dry out CDC. It has to be in Canada only. I do not wish to deal with brokerage charges, duties and whatever else. Is there a store in t...

CRP_4321 I have never used a swivel when fly-fishing. Also, I will say nothing about pike fishing in my post – it is another story. I was thinking of using the smallest swivels you can buy for easy changing of my flies (Woolly Buggers Mostly). I would attach it to the tippet (3X is that good?) Ha...

If a boat meets the 3 points (galley, head & sleeping accomodations) as shown in the boating regulations (see Todd B.), there is one other way in which the boat passengers can drink booze.

If you run aground, you can drink.

The laws for ice huts are similar to boating laws – see the reference below for the boating laws. A hut must first have permanent - sleeping accommodations, cooking and sanitary facilities. Then it depends as to where the hut is – just like in boating. The huts must be well secured to something ...

So, you guys think you had it “bad”? Read below what happened to me. In 1999 we decided to go on our 2-week vacation to the Finger Lakes region. The trip was from Sugarloaf Marina, Port Colborne (on Lake Erie) on our 32 ½ foot cruiser. I knew nothing about what was involved in getting to our de...

Before you do anything as to what to buy, you must first answer certain questions. When these questions have been answered, you will then be able to start looking at specific rods. At this time, do not worry about the fly reel. The real purpose of a fly reel is to just hold the fly line – period. ...

There are free software and web sites that will keep fly tying info for you. Since I do not these, I know nothing about them. I use a very simple system to keep/store fly tying info. I use "favourites" (in AOL and Internet Explorer (IE)) and "bookmarks" in Mozilla Firefox. Whatev...
