I know a guy that says he saw a toy poodle taken by a musky on the Ottawa. It was running along a log boom. This happened in Arnprior near the large pier...My buddy saw a local's dog enter the water to never return. It was a poodle too. Said he never wanted to see anything like that again. He also ...

I tied the rope to the winch bracket on the trailer. That way even if there is a strong wind or current my boat won't take off. I like having it tied to something solid, even though I have plenty of rope.

I always wondered why they didn't do this at the factory. I am sure they could create an automated machine to do this prior to shipping the motor. It would save the consumer a lot time.

We also spent a lot of time fishing a point at the entrance to a large bay. When the wind was blowing hard we had amazing luck fishing the leeward side of this point. The first day we got there I caught 15 walleye in 16 casts. I don't think I will ever be able to replicate that. All 15 were caught o...

Most canoes hang the seats from the gunwales. To lower the seats you just use a longer bolt and block of wood. Here is a kit from MEC (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442502503&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302701079) though you can make your own for much c...

What kind of canoe do you have? Is it a naturally 'tippy' feeling model? Maybe she just needs to spend more time in it to get used to it. Also, if you lower the seats in your canoe a little (1" makes a HUGE difference), it will feel much more stable. You would be very surprised how much of a di...

I am glad everyone has enjoyed the report. I will try to post reports of my adventures over the summer (I have 2 larger trips planned). We saw 3 moose during this trip and the typical beavers, muskrats, etc. I always see lots of different waterfowl while in algonquin park. There was lots of wolf sca...

Algonquin Park brook trout fishing report

My buddy and I canoed through Algonquin park May 5-12th in search of brook trout. We have had success in the past fishing for brook trout in rivers and streams, so our planned route contained lots of river and stream paddling. Our first day was a short one as we both had to work in the morning. We w...

You need 15m (not feet) of floating rope, a bailer and a pea-less whistle (so it will work when wet). You don't need a waterproof flashlight for a canoe, but it is probably a good idea.

If you rent a canoe, this is what they provide you.

Yamaha still uses 100:1 mix ratio for all their 2 strokes. I think they have a good track record for reliability.

My 1984 Evenrude 25hp is 100:1.

Doesn't it say on the motor somewhere?

Maybe you can email Evenrude. I am sure they will help you.

Actually RobM they do it all the time....Move you around without asking that is. Really? Wow. That would tick me off. But wouldn't you have to come in and sign a new policy for the new company? Plus since your money is now going to another company your direct deposit from your bank would need to be...

I don't think any good broker would put your insurance with another company without you requesting it. They may steer new business towards one book or another for various reasons. Personally I like having a broker between me and the company. I am not an insurance expert (my wife is), so it is nice t...

My wife is an insurance broker. I agree with everything almontefisher said. I would also like to add that if this broker is being this lazy (no other word for it) while doing a quote, how are they going to be if you really need them to go to bat for you? Maybe you have a complicated claim or who kno...
