Re: Hard times on the water
Since you are just starting out, I would think a journal is what you should start using right away. Keep it with you and when you go out put as much information as you can in it, ie date, time of day, temperature, cloudy, sunny and wind speed, waves. Then get more specific, what side of the lake you ...

Re: Mod's for a Boston whaler montauk 190
I had one of the 12 foot Boston whalers many years ago and as you may have found out, people will pull on your railing and if it is not one piece, at some point they will rip your railing off the boat. It happened to me once, I fixed it, then it happened again and I took the railing off. So the ques...

Re: Rod holders
Most musky guys do not trust the plastic rod holders as a 50 incher taking off is a real strain on the plastic.
They use the down easters that are available at Sail for not too much more than the Cannon or Scotty.
Some guys mount them on the transom as their boat cover is not tight there.

Re: Looking for lake with Canoe rentals
Check out Constance lake lodge in Dunrobin. They rent boats, not sure about canoes.
Nice small lake, just right for a canoe.
Expect 20 - 24 inch pike and lots of really big blue gills/sunfish right now. it does get weedy as the seasons move along

Re: Thunderstorm fishing
Always before the storm fishing gets good and then if it will be a major storm, the fishing gets great. That is why people take chances with their lives and stay out too late. Better to get off the water when you see the storm coming. Lightening may be ahead of the rain so do not wait for the downpo...

Re: Family time - and a lasting memory
Great story of an excellent hunt, good hunting skills, with a great outcome.
I too was out with my son, although much older, yesterday. Had a good time but the turkey won, this time

Re: Johnson silver spoon
Great lure when the weeds reach the surface so too weedy for a spinnerbait.
Add the twister tail as suggested
Works really well for bass and pike.
I like the largest size in sliver.

Re: Solo boat launching?
I am busy on Saturday but if you want to practise launching locally this evening, I am available.
We do not have to go out in the boat. Just practise.

Re: Looking for basic Crappie advice
If the fish are even slightly aggressive then usually small jigs work, worms work great the rest of the time. I often just use the gulp small maggots that look like a string of sausages, use just one link on a jig. I often use the smallest tube jigs (pink) you can get but some small crappie jigs wit...

Re: Park La Verendrye......Dozois
Definitely Riviere Des Outaouais campground at that time of year. Lots of places to fish that are close enough to the campground if the weather is bad. Fish early and quit by 10:00 am and go back for lunch/nap then back out for the 4:00 pm run. As mentioned, at that time of year the fish are at 15 t...
