Re: Road Trip Weekend Report

Sounds like a great trip Jim ! Man...you do a lot of driving, for a short time fishing ...lol. We were in NB a few years back, and did a charter for Stripers in late summer. We were casting bait (cut mackeral and clams) out in the ocean off the SJ river mouth anchored on a sand bar. We had a blast.....

Re: Pink Salmon Trip.... Algoma, ON Looking for Fishing Partner

It was the best Pinkie run in many years up on Superior according to the locals we talked with...most of the tribs between the Soo and Thunder Bay were loaded when we passed through in mid September. We stopped for a day and fished the Nipigon River in our boat (we were headed to fish Eagle Lake for...

Re: Electronics with Mega DI/SI GPS

I have the same unit on my bow mount TM. Sometimes I see fish, sometimes I don't. Very often if their bellies are on the bottom, it's very difficult to distinguish them from the rest of the clutter. Also, the coverage from the angle of the "cone" in shallower water is not very large. If I ...

Re: Charleston Lake

On my lake, Smallies are moving deeper with the cooler weather. Big ones are keying on Cisco 30 to 35 ft down....relating to "elevator" structure that provides quick access to deep water, and sometimes even suspending out over the the deep basins. As temps in shallow water yo yo up down th...

Re: Lanark/Kayak/Trout

If you're willing to drive a little further....north Frontenac has a bunch of stocked trout lakes with easy road access. Check out Fish OnLine.

This poor fella from a few weeks ago had all his fins worn out from spending his life in a concrete pen.

Re: Bass Opener + Ned Rig = Walleye?

Yep...that Elaztech material is indestructible..and its very buoyant so it rides up when you drag or bounce your bait on the bottom. One bag lasts me a couple of seasons...but of course, I have to have different colours and the different shapes /profiles...so I still have 30 bags or so...lol

Re: Bass Opener + Ned Rig = Walleye?

Very nice !

Yeah, the Ned catches everything...it's especially effective when fish are neutral and don't want to chase stuff. My go to's are the Z-Man Ticklerz and Hula Stickz...I like their stuff so much...I bought the hat...lol

Re: Peterborough ON area Fishing Maps?

All those lakes you mention will be VERY busy opening weekend. They're all on the Trent-Severn system so lots of big boats, and the shorelines are lined with cottages so plenty of SeaDoos, and kayaks, and paddleboards, and pedal boats...you name it. Try one of the smaller quieter lakes north of ther...

Re: Eastern Ontario Walleye

I tried saying that to a cop one day..."but officer, everyone else was speeding". Whether it's enforced by someone being charged or not, at the end of the day it's about ethical behavior and respect for the fishery. Sorry Jim if I sound harsh about this issue, but it's a slippery slope. It...

Re: Eastern Ontario Walleye (Zone 18)

Cut and paste from the regulations: "Delaying the release of a fish for pictures or weighing is unlawful, unless the fish can be legally kept towards your limit." https://www.ontario.ca/page/fishing-limits-size-restrictions-and-catch-and-release Pretty black and white, no grey area around ...

Re: Eastern Ontario Walleye (Zone 18)

I don't mean to be a party pooper, but in FMZ18 those fish in the photos are obviously outside of the slot-size (40 to 50 cm) for retention. I understand that you released them, but the reg's state they must be IMMEDIATELY released and photos can't be taken...certainly not "posing" with th...
