Shirleys Bay

Hardly fished last year, but this season will be different. I have canoed in Shirleys bay from the boat ramp to Innes point last Monday. When the season opens I wish to troll while paddling my porto-boat from these two points and back. I have ten pound power pro line on a light weight spinning combo...

booze & stupidity

Here is my reply. Most of us repect other people and their right to enjoy the outdoors. However, certain people do not care and care even less when they drink. Last year for example, the loudest people on the ice where the ones that were drinking. If you have to have booze on your outings, at least ...

Poisson Blanc

I camped on an island on O`hara lake about five years ago. I fished where the lake narrows on the side with the large bolders, and found quite a few willing takers. The bass hit just about anything I threw at them. We had little success in poisson blanc itself. I have always intended to return.

Motor for 14ft aluminum boat

Last year I bought an insta-bote, which is much a like a fourteen foot car topper aluminum. It folds like up like an accordian and can be carried under one arm for a short distance. This year I have considered a motor. However, I need an education in motors. I am not looking for speed but something ...

We fished lac des Iles two years ago. It looked very good with weeds all along the edge. We tried around several islands, and had no success. It seems like a big lake and gets rough. We spent the day casting tubes and crankbaits and not even a hit. However, we did not use any electronics or map to f...

Run & Gun approach

We were out to Buckham s Bay on Saturday. I stayed on the ice in short sleeves for a few hours before putting on a sweater. Great day, but only two fish. A silver one which was not a bass or a sucker and a perch. I did set out in a half-hearted attempt to find schooling fish by drilling test holes a...

Perch and Pike

Going to try for pike with a large dead minnow on a tip up. Set up two of them, and jig for perch and anything else below us. Going to the same spot as last week. My wife and I hope to stay for most of the day at Buckham bay.

Buckham s Bay

My wife and I have never fished Buckham s Bay. So we decided Saturday morning it was time to pay a visiit, and we were glad we did. We obtained about thirty minnows at the nearby bait shop, and were informed about several entry points to the bay. We chose the closest one to the bait shop, and loaded...

Minnows in the West end.

Hi. We will be going to Buckham Bay tomorrow but do not know where we could get minnows. I heard that someone sells them around Constance Bay. Any suggestions. A couple of weeks ago while on Constance lake we tried power baits, but were not successful, so we wish to try live bait. Thanks

carp -- am I missing something part 2

I found the particular info about the lower oxygen on www.invadingspecies.com. Once you get into the site go to Invaders then click on Fish then Invasive carp. Then once the page appears drop down to where it speaks on IMPACT. Read through and info found in second paragraph.

Carp -- am I missing something Part 2

I checked out my attitude about carp with the Fish Hawkers comments and found much in common. I do enjoy good weight at the end of my rod when I am fishing, but must admit that finding out it is a carp after a good tussle leaves me dissapointed. Dissapointed because this invasive species though intr...

Carp -- why so popular.

I do not wish to start controversy but I am somewhat at a lost over the recent interest in carp these last few decades. When I was a kid fishing on the detroit river for carp we would destroy them if we could, since we were told that they eat the eggs of bass and walleye. They also seem to crowd out...

Carp

Now I do not wish to cause controversy for the sake of it, but I do have a question that really never has been answered. Since I was a kid fishing on the Detroit River, we understood carp and suckers to be garbage fish that would eat the eggs of sport fish such as bass and pickerel. So we use to bur...

I have never fished trout but would give it serious consideration. I would want to be able to walk to the fishing spot since my sled is somewhat tipsy if pulled by machine. Also I would go if the lake is not very far.
