Just got back from our day trip to the Bay. The day started out pretty crappy. First we woke up to rain. Got to our trailer and got the boat all ready at the camp and proceeded down the ramp to launch and found that the owner's son had blocked it off with his dock I had always launched from Hay Bay and had never trailered down to the ferry and was worried that we'd waste an hour and a half looking for it. No problem finding it and not as far as I thought. Did managae to lose one of my riggers on the way there though Stupid tab lock mounting plate design.
Anyways, got her launched and motored by one boat on the way to just past the lighthouse as the winds and waves were coming from the East pretty good. The weather was crappy but we pretty much had the whole Reach to ourselves! Ended up 4 for 4 with one 29.5 incher, 30, 30.5 and a 32 incher. Didn't weigh any as I think the battery died in my scale. I'm not sure what the 32 incher weighed but I think it was my personal best, probably beating my 13 lber from a few years ago. Joanne finally got her first fall fish which we'll just call a double digit for lack of a working scale It was a 29.5 incher.
We were in the water by 12 and out by 3 and ran into a couple of guys from Kingston who were just launching as the winds were really picking up. If you guys read this hope you did well and didn't get too soaked in your tiller with no top. Anyways, it was a nice way to end the year....unless I can make it up next Friday. I'd have to replace my winch strap which broke part way back to camp but that's just kinda the day it was I guess.
The magic lures were the Cabela's Reef Runner type baits in all Purple and Pink with Yellow belly. We ran a Wonderbread coloured one but didn't get a fish on it. 2 were off boards and 2 off flatlines.
cheers

Beautiful fish Ken and Joanne. Me thinks me shouldn't have put the boat away so early.

Hi Ken and Joanne
I was thinking about going after walleye this week, any suggestions on where to fish? I was going to launch at the Ferry dock and fish that immediate area. You mentioned the lighthouse, I am not sure where that is. Great looking fish, you have got me all worked up to get out. Thanks for any advice you might have.

Hey Russ
the Lighthouse is maybe 3 or 4 kms East of the ferry on the north shore. You'll be anywhere from 75- 100 ft deep. Use any deep diving lure like a Manns +20, Deep Taildancer or what I switched to with much more success is a Reef Runner. Purple is THE colour around this time of year but we also did well with a Hot Pink and Yellow bellied one. We had fish on 150 ft leads as well as 200 ft back both on flat lines and on the planer boards. Don't be afraid to go fast. We were between 1.8 and 2.5 mph. Good luck and let us know how you did. Merry X-mas.
cheers

Thanks a TON Ken that is enough info to to get me away from the turky and out in the boat, the wheather looks good untill Sunday.I chase Muskies most of the time, and my season normally ends Dec 15th. So your advice on the lures is great. Also your trolling speed is good advice to slow things down for the eye's. Just when my wife thought she knew how crazy I am, I raise the bar another notch.
Thanks Russ |

Hi Ken -- long time!
That was a great report; I'm finally getting some time to read a few threads, and really enjoyed yours along with the pictures. Quality fish! Congrat's to you & Joanne on sticking out the crummy start and getting some nice walleye boated.
Happy Holidays!
W.
PS: at least you had your head attached in these pics (couldn't resist)! |

Russ,
no problem. I expect to see an awesome report upon your return!
Hey Wolfe,
it certainly has been a while. My previous photographer was fired and has not set foot in my boat since Joanne "volunteered" (read insisted) on being my new Fall fishing partner Hence the much improved photography. The weather was crummy but for some reason, the Fall walleye seem to like it Anyways, all the best to you and your family also.
cheers
